On what planet is USC "not particularly close" to Ohio State in "blue blood"status?

Earth.

Weeks ranked in AP Poll:

982- Ohio State (1st)
813- USC (6th)

Seasons with an AP Top 25 Finish:

63- Ohio State (2nd)
51- USC (6th)

Seasons with an AP Top 10 Finish:

43- Ohio State (3rd)
29- USC (7th)

Seasons with an AP Top 5 Finish:

30- Ohio State (2nd)
19- USC (6th)

Ohio State is 3rd in all-time wins while USC is 13th… and OSU has historically played a much more difficult schedule.

Ohio State is so much further ahead because they are just more consistent through the years. They’ve won national titles in five different decades (1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 2000s, 2010s) and in two others they were national runners up (1970s and 1990s)

Nearly all of USC’s success came between 1962-1978 and then under Pete Carroll from 2002-2008. Outside of those periods they’ve been pretty average. Granted they had a ton of success in those two periods.

So youre telling me a&m turned down an offer from the Big 12 to have a private network from the and they elected to give it to Texas instead. They then elected to move to the SEC? That's what you're saying?

Did you ride the short bus to school? Do you do reading comprehension?

That's not what I said at all. I said that Aggie was one of the schools who voted in favor of individual tier 3 TV rights and then ran crying to the SEC when we took advantage of it and they didn't.
I would have more respect for them if they could just admit it for once.

I don't see how this has anything to do with the question at hand but I see no problem with that at all. Of course Tennessee and most of the SEC are going to think that and there's nothing wrong with that.

This list is retarded and completely invalid. Not having USC is enough to invalidate it entirely, but having Georgia, LSU, and Penn State on it INSTEAD of USC makes this an Onion article.

The 8 blue bloods of CFB are pretty obvious
Alabama
USC
Notre Dame
Michigan
OSU
Nebraska
Texas
Oklahoma

Everyone else is behind them. The team closest to falling off from their blueblood status is Nebraska, but even then they're at least a decade or two of consistently terrible performance before that can be considered.

Interesting post. I still go with these 8 that a lot of CFB fans seem to hold to.

I will rank on history but also with a recency bias built in:

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State - I think we all hate them but they are consistent as hell, no doubt a top 4-5 program all time
3/4 Notre Dame & Oklahoma - can’t decide which way to rank right now.
5. Michigan - most of success was before most of us was born but still tons of wins and recent title vaults them ahead of…
6. USC
7. Texas - ranked here because only 4 titles and our shite era recently but we look poised to
contend again and not become…

8. Nebraska - blue blood rather we like it or not, drought has been so long, will they ever make another run again or come back to relevance? If not, what do we do with them?

Just because they aren’t blue bloods doesn’t mean that programs like Georgia and LSU aren’t as good or aren’t better positioned going forward - they just didn’t have the success far enough back.

When the word "Blueblood" isn't enough, enter "Mega"......

Which has nothing to do with the words you may choose from when "Dipshit" isn't enough.

They have never won anything anywhere they have been except on a rare occasion when 3 or 4 other teams in the conference have a down year. I enjoy their losses more than I do UT losses. At least UT has some NC they can show. All faggie has is a blank one unless Jimbo took it with him.

Only 5 blue bloods.

1- Alabama
2- Ohio St
3- Oklahoma
4- Notre Dame
5- USC

I don't give teams points for just existing longer...so teams like Michigan and Texas would be in the next tier. Nebraska is the one I struggle with. Definitely a blue blood most of my life... and it takes more than a bad decade to lose the status, but man, they haven't even been average for years... they've sucked for nearly a quarter of a century now. If you want to know how to lose blue blood status, Nebraska is showing you. At least ND has been in NC contention a couple of times this century.

I've really enjoyed watching the Gumps get their panties in a wad over LSU being mentioned as part of this list.

IMO, too many holes in the resume for these. They are elite for sure, but not bluebloods

My Program Rankings (using a metric I won’t share because uninformed people flip out over the tiniest inputs):

BLUEBLOODS
1. Alabama- 1294
2. Oklahoma- 1033
3. Ohio State- 1013
4. Notre Dame- 871

ELITES
5. Michigan- 818
6. USC- 783
7. LSU- 665
8. Georgia- 664
9. Nebraska- 663
10. Texas- 657
11. Florida St- 606
12. Florida- 566
13. Penn St- 566
14. Miami- 565
15. Clemson- 526
16. Tennessee- 519
17. Auburn- 477

SOLID PROGRAMS
18. Michigan State- 361
19. UCLA- 330
20. Washington- 325
21. Texas A&M- 297
22. Oregon- 284
23. Wisconsin- 282
24. TCU- 268
25. Arkansas- 266

Michigan winning the title last season shrunk the gap between #4 Notre Dame the #5 team considerably… as Michigan jumped ahead of USC after winning a title last year.

It takes literal decades to gain or lose blue blood status, and to be honest, Notre Dame is going on close to three decades of being just a notch above average. If Michigan were to jump above Notre Dame in the coming years, I’d be more inclined to say there are just three blue bloods rather than move a 5th team up to the group. Bottom line is Notre Dame is dangerously close to losing blue blood status, IMO.

UGA isn't really a blueblood.

But for a list like this using numbers, there's a reason UGA gets included. It's not because they were consistently in contention for national titles. They really haven't been other than the 1940's, early 1980's and 2017-present.

The reason UGA gets included is they don't suck as bad as other teams in their down years.

UGA has been more than one game below .500 the following seasons: 1990, 1961, 1955-8, 1953, 1949, 1932, 1914, 1909, 1905, 1904. 13 total seasons where UGA was bad enough to lose two more than they won. Only 2 of them since 1960. A lot of other teams who have been in competition for championships more frequently than UGA have way more frequent horrible years.

Agreed. After last season, Michigan has passed USC. It’s close, but Michigan should be ahead.
