The thing about portal players

Most of these guys dont care about the school or the team. They fold at the slightest bit of opposition, hence why theyre in the portal to begin with.
Ole miss is going the A&M route except it is for guys who have ALREADY QUIT on their college commitments.
This will not end well. Look for 24' ole miss to fold like a cheap lawn chair

I definitely think that portal players are going to make rivalry games slightly less special... mainly because they won't understand the rivalries the same way the fans do.

I agree initially, however, OM did very well last year doing the same thing. they are supposedly being very selective, and i would say its been largely successful.

That's why we pick portal players from our rivals.

Meh… Lane boots those guys off the team fast. Chris marshal and trigg for example.
I’d say some of the hardest workers OM had this year were portal guys.
Good theory I mean if A&M couldn’t make it work, then obviously it can’t be done.

Did we fold this past season?

Most players don’t care about winning, they just care about getting paid. Numerous times I saw KJ Jefferson laughing and smiling after games, losing games, and he was all smiles and laughter. Why should he care because he’s being paid.

That’s more of an Arkansas thing…..and I don’t think anyone can blame them.

I think most players today see themselves as mercs. They're not loyal to the school, but they are loyal to the guys they're shoulder-to-shoulder with. The bigger problem with portal players is that they don't have time to learn the system. That's been most evident in offensive lines, a position that traditionally takes multiple years for guys to play together completely as one unit.

Sad times when Ole Piss fans are talking shite to everyone.

The thing about portal players is that there are maybe 25 of them that are legitimately good, SEC starter type players. The rest are in search of playing time that they couldn’t find at their last place.

Why shouldn’t any individual who has unique skills and traits very few have not get paid and not try to find the best deal to maximize their abilities ?

With NIL most of the high school kids don’t either

It’s not that I’m against them being paid. It’s more of they can still get paid when they suck and lose and they don’t give a shite because $$$.
I’d love to start seeing incentive based NIL. Want more money? Score more touchdowns, catch more passes, etc.

Ole Miss is your new daddy as long as Lane is there.

That's bullshite.
The rivalry game will be special if you win.
If a portal entry has a big 3rd down sack or catches 80 yards and a TD, you will be more than fine with portal players and rivalry games.
The issue is bowl games.
The portal player isn't "in it" for the teammates.
There is very little financial benefit to the bowl game versus prepping for the draft.
The only time a portal player stays for the bowl game is when his draft stock needs it.

You think most of these Ohio St, Texas A&M, UGA, and Bama players that filled out these top recruiting classes really care about the school or team? You think thats what sold them?
Its some combination of money, development, and competing for a championship. Thats it, and its been that way for years.
I don't think your point overall is bad though. I think rivalries are more heated when you've had guys at your school for 3-4 years hitting other guys who have been at their school for 3-4 years. Big moments will still feel special for the fans, but on the field it is certainly becoming more "professional" where everyone hugs and swaps jerseys at the end.

I remember when players actually gave a shite about the school they were wearing the uniform of.

FIFY. HS recruits. Portal guys. They’re all pros looking to get paid with zero loyalty. Al least some of the portal guys may have had a year of S&C and living away from home.

From a P5 coach at a school you’ll know:
“Recruiting has changed dramatically the last two years. The first thing every top kid asks now is how much we can offer, which of course I can’t answer. But, that has to be competitive or you’re out. The second they ask is how they will be featured & used. Not many even ask about winning anymore.”
