Ive seen it misapplied all year in various games but last night vs Tx it reached the point of absurdity.

Hard hit= flag and they look for targeting... Which could be applied to basically every tackle.

No idea what defense is supposed to do

The ejection aspect should be removed entirely

Yea, they need to completely do away with it. A Georgia defensive player tackled a back yesterday, and was speared by the running back, and they literally called targeting on the Georgia player.

The other hit on the receiver on the sideline was actually a perfect hit.

If they don’t go to a yellow card / red card thing soon I’ll be shocked

There should definitely be a clause where the penalty is waived off if the offensive player also initiates contact with the crown of their helmet.

You’re spot on. Neither of those two targeting calls were actually targeting. Both were just really hard hits.

I honestly don’t know how they can tackle anyone anymore.

I don't like when 2 players lower head and hit we stop and review to see if we want to kick defensive player out of game

What I don't understand is you're taught a child to tackle by lowering your shoulders and going into the guys torso/ legs. Where the f*** is your head supposed to go?

If its truly about player safety, what needs to happen is ir needs to be applied to the offensive player as well. And if both players drop their heads (as happened last night) then both players should be tossed.

The automatic ejection for targeting is the biggest bunch of bullshite I have ever seen

So many times they call it its just unavoidable

Targeting as it stands is being used to break defenses in big games. The result of how they call them is causing defensive players to be scared to wrap up and tackle, this leads to "arm tackling". If i'm an OC, i'm telling all my players to lower their heads before impact every single time to draw the targeting penalty.

I mean when THIS is called targeting, what the frick are players supposed to do?

In the LSU Arky game, I was glad they actually waved off a targeting flag. It was obvious our guy was not aiming for his head or trying to do something nefarious. The receiver lowered his head but primary contact was shoulder to solar plexus. The announcers were all over it as targeting, but WHAT THE CRAP WAS OUR GUY SUPPOSED TO DO??? Ole’ him like a bull and let him run right by???!!! Those announcers were crap. We obviously got the practice squad as announcers last night.

I always thought "launching" had to be a big part of a targeting penalty but, last night, UGA got called for targeting for run of the mill helmet to helmet hits where the defender just lowered his head mid tackle.

I also thought targeting always had to be using helmet to make hit, but LSU defender got flagged for targeting when making hit with shoulder (reversed upon review).
