The SEC Network a failure up to this point?

I know it hasn't aired a second of programming and still has about 7 weeks until it does. However there are still a ton of cable/directv providers who aren't on board yet. I know that Dish and U-Verse are on board and people can switch to them.
With that said, why is it taking the other big boys (directv, Comcast, Time Warner, Cox) that are in SEC country so long to strike a deal? People continue to say that they will make a deal before the start date, but it's been a long time since they announced there would be this channel and people have seemingly moved at a snails pace.
Will major companies not getting the SEC Network hurt the channel when it initially debuts? I think it will.

If it's a failure then so is all the other conference networks. They didn't get the big boys in year one either

You're really comparing the SEC to the Big10 and Pac12?
The SEC has the highest ratings year in and year out in collegd football.

If they don't strike a deal with other major companies then it is a failure. But we still have a while until the launch date.

Well yeah. What else are you going to compare them with?

You do realize these networks are about more than just college football right? Especially for conferences like the PAC.
Anyway, cable companies are going to hold out to the bitter end for the $$$. It is what it is.

Moronic post.
Sorry to be harsh, but if you thought just because it's the SEC network it'd be bubble gum, sunshine, and puppies you have zero business sense.
I count on directv not being on board come the first year. Anything otherwise is gravy.

Yeah.. I'd wait until September to even make a comment on this.

For me personally it being on ALL major providers won't make it a failure or not.
If they provide quality sports coverage and do things right then the other coverages will come.
I am actually just about to be moving into a new home and already plan on going with UVerse. So I'm really not concerned if it gets picked up by the "big boys"

A deal will get struck, this happens all the time. Wouldn't be surprised if deals are struck at the 11th hour before football season. The providers are just trying to get their price.

If Comcast holds out, I hope ESPN starts putting games like the DSOR and IB on SECN in response. Wonder who the fans will consider the failure then?

Actually I think it is the biggest success ever for a college sports network at this point in its life cycle. I don't think any of them- LHN, B1G, PAC, etc.- had partners like Dish and AT&T year one. I think they already have enough to cover costs which is huge.
Plus many of these arrangements will go to the last minute. Football is driving the bus and that is common. So no deals now is OK.
For example, many of the providers who did get the LHN announced it a week before the first game.
I bet by the SECN first game two other big ones sign on. By next season they will cover most of the SEC with agreements.

I still don't see why they (ESPN) don't offer a direct pay for streaming service. Screw the providers. It's not like I have to have Directv on board to stream Netflix movies. ESPN should just cut the providers out and take the Netflix route. Make the providers obsolete.

Because why take $30 a month or whatever from the 10% of the population that is college football fans when you can take $1+ from everyone who has cable?

Because without net neutrality the providers would just throttle connections to that streaming service until ESPN pays them a chunk of money...
