For taking a chance on a coach from an upper midwest school that practically no one in the south had ever heard of who in return made them a national champion. He hired some assistants that he made even better than they were. Five of them became head coaches in the SEC that is now on their resumes.
While other conferences have either folded or combined or expanded no conference has improved and maintained the status of the SEC. So thanks to LSU for hiring an unknown Nick Saban and the two together being responsible for creating a premier powerhouse conference known as the SEC. The SEC is in your debt.

The rise of the SEC is because of the BCS.
#1. 5 Different SEC teams won National Championships during the BCS era.
LSU,Bama,and Florida won multiple, while Auburn and Tennessee won one with Auburn playing for multiple.
#2. The BCS also left out Auburn in 2004 which created the "conference wars" Conference strength perception became paramount from that season forth.
#3. 2006 Gators and SEC speed obliterated Ohio State and the narrative was set.
Many SEC teams were given the benefit of the doubt after this.
2007;LSU even with 2 losses made the championship because the perception of the SEC in the conference wars.
The rest is history.

Because Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia weren’t power houses before that at all. Moron.
