McElwain was 22-16 at Colorado State before coming to Florida. That's barely mediocre. Almost trash level. Mullen was 69-46 at Mississippi State. That's mediocre.

Go look at records after they left csu and msu. Those school dropped.

You hire Urban regardless

That would be a huge mistake on Florida's part.
He is bombed out , burned out and has frail anxiety disorders
at age 60 , versus 41 when he first hit Florida . It would all add
up to a complete failure at another head coach position.
Plus, he's knocking down a reported $7-million from Fox for
just talking football.

Yeah I find this hard to believe. Meyer was losing it at Ohio State but not bc of his ego, like at Florida, but bc he was getting older.

He’s now pretty old and just got humiliated at the professional level. Plus if he didn’t work out at Florida then that would be a PR nightmare

Lmao absolutely. Look Meyer brought some great days to Gainesville but the guy is also a fricking coward lol

You think a guy with his ego could stomach losing to Kirby in blowout fashion a couple times? Probably not

Hugh Freeze turned down Florida, Sexton got him the job to replace Muschamp, it was a done deal, but for whatever reason he backed out at the last minute.
And this is 100% fact.

Shut up.

Coaching search rumors are fun. Especially while your current one is still employed.

Hell. I’m looking forward to the Florida game. It will show if our defensive guys can adjust and improve. We have it covered on the offensive side of the ball… but defense will be a liability again.

If you can bring Meyer back, then there is no way for Napier to save his job.

I would advise any Gata out there to not get your hopes up about this being true, he turned down Texas (supposedly) when he was still in his 50's, and now he's making top tier HC money from Fox without having to recruit and coach. Not sure about the transfer portal, but NIL certainly wasn't a thing the last time he coached in college.

In the new age of players making real money and unregulated free agency, CFB is a young coaches game now more than ever.

This NIL era may flip some things.

He's not making top tier HC money at Fox. If he went back to coaching, he would double his pay. Kirby is making $13M/yr. UF would definitely put Meyer above that. The one thing Meyer proved at 3 different schools is that he will turn things around lightning fast.

I was thinking about this today - this might be the time that NFL type coaches and older coaches could excel in college. Meyer is a good recruiter and he knows how to run a program. He knows what it takes to win. Pair his natural recruiting ability with a robust NIL program and he's going to win big. Even without recruiting ability, if the NIL part is really robust, recruiting takes care of itself and a coach can focus on coaching.

This is why I would not be surprised to see Saban go back to coaching or an NFL guy (maybe a Belichick or Gruden type) give it a shot. Some college programs have GMs now. If a coach makes it so he doesn't have to worry about NIL and just steers players over to the GM / NIL people, a guy like Saban may go back, same with Meyer, Stoops, or an NFL guy.

I remember Saban saying he got tired of players coming to him about NIL deals. If a program puts in the infrastructure to take that off of a coach's plate, you may see some huge names go into college coaching.

Imagine a guy like Saban or Meyer, or Belichick or Gruden, that all know how to evaluate talent very well - if they just talked to the GM guy, and he talked to the NIL people, all the coach has to do is make out his wish list and let the money people do what they do. No recruiting trips. Develop rapport from a distance via NIL, get someone on campus, do your recruiting there without having to travel. Could be a new paradigm.

I have no doubt a guy like Meyer has been scheming how to make this work - if only so he can discuss it on TV. But, he's competitive and he may want to give it a shot. With UF's new facilities, it's not a bad leap for him to take. He'd make huge money and if it doesn't work, he can go to the beach or back to TV.

There was an interview not long ago where he more or less dispelled any idea of returning - but it's hard for competitive people to let go.
