Fort Smith is dying unfortunately. Fayetteville just overtook it as #2 largest city in Arkansas.

It's still a decent town, but some manufacturing plants left awhile back and stopped growing.

Pretty sure that I've seen several big projects slated for Fort Smith in the near future. If they were dying, that's probably about to change.

A bridge over what is the question.....

I think it is just a fact that times have changed ...CFB is semipro now going to further commercialization....the money is in super conferences and superconference eventually run the CFB football championship playoff and distort the $$$ toward themselves.....the SEC with Oklahoma insures 3 SEC teams in the playoff each year and maybe more if the playoff expands.....

Not expanding the playoff was a stupid move by the big10 and others...it hurts themselves...

UTexas does not add anything athletically or academically to the SEC
It was literally the No. 1 ranked athletic department last year and won it's 59th national title (4th most behind UCLA, Stanford and Southern Cal) a couple of days ago

I am expecting east and west divisions with a cross division opponent that will change every two years.

The SEC would have added Oklahoma and Texas 10 years ago but both were flirting with the Pac back then. Texas always looked down its nose at the SEC and prided itself on it own brand which it feels is unequaled in college sports.
OU was invited back then, and in my mind should have gone, but at the time Boren was president and he would not go without Okie Lite, being a former senator and governor, he was trying to be all things EXCEPT OU's president. The new president made the move a priority.

We’re not waiting for the merger to hate y’all. If you think we don’t already hate you, you’re late to the party.

A top 10 brand without question, arguably top 5 since joining the SEC

Top 10 ten in what? They are a middle of the road program in this conference if that.

Mizzou offers very little as well.

Disappointing pickups other than some extra cash. Speaking of which aggy owes each team money for not playing that bowl game.

Oklahoma has always belonged in the SEC. Their passion for their school and football program is a culture match.

Texas is more of a west coast fit. They matchup culture wise with the schools in the Pac. Thats not an insult just the truth.

Now the fun begins. Does Texas become more like the SEC or does the SEC become more like Texas.

LSU is on the western borders of the conference right next to these interlopers. We have fought the good fight but the interlopers are just about inside the gates now. LSU doesn’t jive well with Texas OR OU. It will get nasty.

Ou vs LSU should be a great rivalry.

LSU is very relevant in Texas among Aggies and Longhorns. It will be a natural rivalry, just like Aggy/LSU. OU is also very relevant in Texas, which will give the OU/LSU rivalry and instant start. LSU Like it or not (I don't) Is the lynchpin to SEC expansion into these "western" states.

The LSU, UT, OU, A&M love affair is going to be something serious. OU fans already despise LSU because LSU owns their arse. UT and LSU don’t have a storied history besides the Burrow show in Austin 2019.

At the surface it sounded bad that LSU is going to lose classic rivalries to the east. Basically LSU is swapping Auburn and Florida for OU and Texas. Ironically there are parallels between those fan bases IMO.

Auburn = OU. (Stick up their arse, delusional, passionate, full of tradition)
Florida = Texas. (Obnoxious, delusional, large fan base, passionate).

You’re thinking of Austin. Just because Austin is liberal and reminds people of Cali doesn’t mean UT’s administration and more specifically football program aligns with the Pac12. The only program in the PAC that is truly invested in football is Oregon.

UT is all in on football the same way that LSU, Florida, Alabama etc are. Don’t get me started on them being a cultural fit for baseball and basketball. Sorry bud but they belong.

Im not saying Texas does not have passionate fans but their athletic department puts more of an emphasis on the Olympic sports than the SEC schools who for the most part are all in on football. Similar to the west coast schools. There is nothing wrong with that but it is what it is.

t's because Texas A&M – along with Missouri – created an historic, cultural, and geographic "bridge" for adding Texas and Oklahoma down the road

You don’t need a “bridge” for the top programs you claim they are.

Total misses on culture too.

Mizz and Texas A and M didn’t do any bushwhacking of any kind as a prerequisite for Texas and OU to come to the strongest league in the sport. …one simply refuses to win its division while the other cannot get respect, no matter how hard it tries.

Cute effort tho.

I don’t think so. They’re just as invested in football as any other SEC program including A&M. I can see this turning into a fans perspective that A&M cares more about football than UT. Don’t think it’s true.

How many NC have the four new schools won in the last 25 years? I know of only 2 in football, none in basketball, 2 in baseball (SEC has won 7 NC in baseball since 2009)

Arkansas won a natty in basketball. And about a billion in various forms of track.
