When I was in college in the 1980s the LSU crowd was a beautiful, raucous party. Too bad we suck so hard as fans now. Last week a dude literally, I shite you not, told me to sit down as I was stretching my feet at halftime. Halftime. SMDH.
I'd have stood up the rest of the game

Can't remember who it was, but somebody on here before the game said they were headed to the Auburn student section. Surely somebody told him he was a feature in the 2nd half.

outgrow the arena
Limited supply drives demand.
Most sports venues should contract over the next 20 years.
It’s better to sell all of the seats, than have empty seats for many games.
Football stadiums will need to convert to chair seating which will reduce capacity. People want to be comfortable. Bench seating is not 21rst century.

Over time, it will get even more intimidating. There are a lot of seats filled with older alums who do not understand BB and haven't really cared about it. They were the ones who bought tickets to keep the program above water during the Lebo and Barbee eras.

It’s definitely one of the best, it helped create the greatest SEC basketball gif of all time

It's the Bruce effect. Plus AU has a really nice and underrated venue.

I don't think it is underrated anymore. The National talking heads have been calling it one of the toughest places to play in CBB.

I just wish they'd stop with that "there's no clock in the jungle" shite.

Great atmosphere! I think Pearl injects a lot of life into the crowd too. Dale was similar and often interacted with the students. I think making that connection is the key.

The reason for the arena's intimidation is the crowd is right on tip of the court. Even a smaller crowd seems loader and larger than what you feel at some of the buildings built in the 60/70s, that hold 5K more fans. In football you feel claustrophobic in a similar environment.

well stated. Bruce continually amazes me at how he is constantly selling the program to not only the athletes, but the fans also.

The small arena with the Jungle on top of you was genius.
Now that the team is good they can take advantage of it.
Great moves all around.

The minute he stepped on campus he was building a brand for AU basketball. I think he's a harder worker than any coach y'all have on staff.

Agreed... one staff that actually earns its $$$$

Me too, NorthGwinnettTiger. I have you beat by quite a few years--my Auburn coach was Tommy Joe Eagles (greatest name for an Auburn coach ever). He used to come to the fraternity houses just to remind us that we had a basketball team and to give us free tickets. Great guy, but that team was awful the whole time I was at Auburn. I think our biggest guy was around 6'5". I will never forget when he had to go up against Shaq--it was brutal.

quote:Pretty sure that was dreamed up by the AU PR people. At least that was my impression after Tubs’ presser right after it was introduced, where he practically cringed while talking about it
Tubs tried to get that going

I think Auburn being a smaller town with less to do actually helps them in this case because it is the event of the day.
