I can’t name a single player who ever played for your program. Not one.

Shorty McWilliams
Only RB in the history of the SEC to be All-SEC for four years.
Finished in the top ten of Heisman voting twice.
Was in the Army backfield with Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis in 1945. Undefeated Army team.
Played at State 1944, 1946-1948.

Shorty McWilliams is a legend. I played football and graduated with his grandson, Bo Bailey, at Meridian High School. On top of being a legendary football player and Korean War veteran, Shorty owned Weidmann’s restaurant in Meridian, where I went all the time growing up.

Absolutely he was a great man. Weidmann’s was and still is an awesome place to eat. And yes he was one of the first in a long list of great players from Meridian High School who have starred in the SEC and in the NFL.

I miss the original Weidmann’s from when Shorty and his family ran it. The decor was classic and the menu was such a Southern original. My mom was the very last paying customer at the original Weidmann’s when it closed in 2000. I have two original menu’s from Weidmann’s and a peanut butter jar that sat on the table.

And yet the 1st two mentioned were the gayest to make a name for themselves….

Same here. When the conglomerate bought it in 2000, they totally messed it up.
However since Charles Frazier bought it 2010, he has done a great job of recreating of what they had before. And it is as close as they can get it to the old Weidmann’s.
I have great memories of it going all the way back to to the 1960’s but still enjoy it today.
Oldest restaurant in Mississippi, since 1870.
And very popular with SEC fans, particularly LSU and Bama among others who make it a must stop when traveling through Meridian.
