The future of Curt Cignetti

There are 136 FBS college football programs and all 136 would drop ever dime they have available to get Curt Cignetti to become their next head coach. Does he actually stay at Indiana and turn them into a CFP power house or is it a matter of time before one of the bigger college football programs drops a big sack of cash on his desk?

Cig is an odd one. I really dont think its the money for him. He has a pathological obsession with winning, and I think in his mind he needs to know it's him winning, and not the program. He picked Indiana for a reason, because if he can win there, he knows he is the reason for it, not the program that was in place before he got there. I think theres a very good chance he stays at Indiana where he can be satisfied knowing he built everything he has from scratch.

He’ll be the bama coach in 2 years. Highest paid coach of all times when they bring him in

The question with Cignetti is how many years can he produce teams like this? Many experienced guys who have had years in his system can’t be gotten out of HS or the portal every year.
He’s undoubtedly a great coach but did he catch some lightening in a bottle to put this particular team together or can he build a yearly contender doing this?

What’s he going to do when all
Those guys are out of eligibility?

He's getting paid a ton of money.
There's a lot more IU money where that initial ton of money came from.
He doesn't get negatively compared to history every time there's an incomplete pass.
He doesn't have to deal with idiotic boosters who used to drink with Les Miles or play golf with Saban.
He takes pleasure in kicking your arse in a place where arse-kickings were previously received not dealt out.

I mean, is "bigger" still important? Indiana just obliterated Bama and also beat Ohio State in the conference championship. Why leave for a bigger program when you are already kicking the bigger programs asses?
I am not sure the old rules still apply when it comes to coaches always chasing the bigger job. He has proven he can win at Indiana and they just gave him a huge extension. He should stay and have his name put up on the stadium.

Cignetti isn't winning because of just these guys. These guys are winning because of Cignetti. Without him, they wouldn't even get a look at most places.

First. Indiana has the cash flows to match any school on salary and NIL. Second, if you have ever watched a Cig interview, that guy doesn't fit everywhere. He won't fire an assistant. His OC/DC have been with him for a long time. Finally, he will let you know they don't put in the hours top programs do. He has had a nice season by lucking into Mendoza, but that will be an anomaly. He works at UI. I don't see him fitting in every where.

What other P4 programs offered him a job before he picked Indiana?
Pretty sure he picked Indiana because that was the best job offered to him coming out of James Madison.

Frick, I hope so but I seriously doubt it.

One of the dumber things I've seen here- that's impressive. Congrats.

Fair point, but I’m sure being the first team to run the table in the expanded playoff wouldn’t hurt.

Cignetti has been working on his 2028 team for two years now... do you think he just started doing this 3 years ago?
lol

His contract guarantees he’s paid top 3 every year he makes the Semi. Why leave? That said, if he goes 16-0 I think there’s an insane booster somewhere who’d offer him $20mil to jump.
