yes, and there is actually a little more to it than that even
Steve was an assistant for Pepper Rodgers at GA Tech; back when the rivalry wasn't quite as one sided (or was a lot closer to the days when Tech was a somebody in football anyway, . Pepper got fired partly because of his overall record, but partly because of his 2-4 record against UGA
Pepper was supposed to bring the Yellow Jackets back, but was not able to do it
If he had been 4-2 against UGA, he would likely have been given another year or 2
Spurrier absolutely blames us for that (his friend and mentor being fired, and losing his own job)
Most people don't know this, but Pepper Rodgers was instrumental in getting Spurrier to the Redskins
Steve, of course, also lost his job
