he was an elite recruiter one of the best we had on staff
The uaa probably didn’t like that and forced him out while keeping mark hocke

caw you crack ufmatt up.

Any UF defensive coach that leaves is good news and a chance for an upgrade. Our defense was historically bad last year.

He got a total of 4 recruits in 3 years at UF I think. One of them is the son of a Gator legend. He did have a really great class at one point in the cycle, but it turned out to just be a good class. That could be on the fact our season went to the crapper though. Hopper also left because his cousin hated Bateman, so that's not necessarily great.

He seems like a good guy but this is definitely not something any UF fan should be upset about. I am assuming Elko will call the defense anyway? If so, can't see much harm in hiring him even though he didn't pan out at UNC. It is weird he is bringing in 2 assistants from one of the worst defenses in the SEC the last two years which were also the two worst defenses in UF history.

Interesting that A&M is all about Elko really running the defense. Not sure they should want a HC micromanaging either side when he should be a CEO in today's world

Spencer’s college track record pre UF was fantastic, so I can buy him needing a change of scenery from there. I was excited about him overall. This is not exciting and very underwhelming

You meant defense? HC's call plays all the time. Not sure that I would call that micromanaging.

Please do!

His unit made Ray Davis a household name for a week.

On the downside Florida could hire someone competent... but thats pretty low risk ATM.

I agree on Spencer for y'all. He was just not a good fit at Florida. I don't think he had a ton of experience in the type of defense we are running. And our coordinators have looked terrible. It would be frustrating to work for a younger DC especially when they are not successful. I mean Toney (last year's DC) looked like his previous job was managing a Gamestop and Armstrong looks like he is 12.

I do think Armstrong was an improvement because we did seem to have players in the right positions most of the time. It's just what they did when they got in those positions was pretty terrible. It didn't seem to be as much of a scheme issue this year as it did last year.

Sounds like a solid hire for a mediocre 8 win program to me. Coach Elmo doing work!

So this is the guy A&M waited 3 weeks for? Why did they not just give Robinson the DC job at the get go? Thye would have most likely kept most of their class together and seriously limited the number of guys they lost to the portal...

So either this was Elkp's guy from the get-go and they slow played it until after NSD1 for reasons or a ton of people turned them down and this is the best they could do and waited after NSD1 because they knew they were going to be roasted.

The real question is be better than Santucci?

He’s a friend of Elko. Was the DC at Army. No idea what to think. Thought we we were going after Baker, but probably turned us down …

First Elko hire I’m meh on. At least our LB’s won’t suck

On paper it’s pretty underwhelming.

I think it basically came down to Elko wants his style of defense run. He’s worked with Bateman before and he’ll do what Elko tells him to in the defensive side. E-Rob has never called a defense and might have his own ideas on how it should be done.

I think coaching wise, it would be a similar set up. However, recruiting wise Bateman is light years ahead of Santucci.

Elko’s most important hire was the OC. I think he landed one that’s young and hungry with tons of potential. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here since defense is Elko’s expertise.
