I dont remember seeing reports that he played poorly during the fall camp, but I have seen reports that George Macintyre (True Freshman) performed the best. Most speculate him being under weight is the reason why he wasnt named the starter.
I think Joey will be on a short leash especially when it comes to turnovers. Heuple's QBs typically dont throw a lot of interceptions, so Im hopeful he cuts his INTs way down.
If not, I expect Macintyre to replace him before season's end.

This is the most underrated Tennessee football team I've ever seen. We finally have the proper blue chip talent ranking to really compete for and win a national championship.
Our defense is deeper than it's been since the Chavis days. Dline is loaded and our linebackers are as deep as any group in the nation. Secondary will be led by future NFL players Jermod McCoy and Colton Hood and has plenty of young talent.
Running back room is just as loaded and deep.
Vols are back.
If Joey Football is as good as Hooker was in 2021 let alone 2022 we are winning a national championship.
Huge questions on the OL and at QB make the chances of this being an underwhelming season pretty high. The defense should be very good again, but we lost JPJ to the 1st round of the draft, which I actually don't think will be a huge deal due to the depth we have on the line, but we also definitely don't beat UF without him last year.
McCoy is a stud, but he's also coming back from a torn ACL and we don't know when he'll be game ready, or how it might affect him mentally when he does first come back.
The RB room has some pieces, but until we see it on the field I wouldn't describe them as loaded.
IF the OL gels quickly, Aguilar clicks in the system and limits turnovers, the Vols can be better than a lot of people think. Those are some mighty big ifs. Expecting Aguilar to be as good as Hooker was means you forgot how good Hooker was or you're highly delusional. Pretty sure it's the latter.

He's good enough to beat the dregs of the league. The Vandys, the Kentuckys, the Floridas and Arkanasas, etc.
But will he be good enough to compete with the big boys? That's the question.

I’m a leave ya was actually pretty arse last year against conference opponents and we still made the playoffs.

In fairness it was Arbuckle at WSU who turned Cam into a great QB. The same Arbuckle who did same with Mateer. Same Arbuckle who is now the OU OC.
OU fans keep saying Arbuckle made Cam Ward and nobody gives GJ Kinne(HC ant Texas State) any credit.
He’s an offensive guru that will be a P4 head coach next year and was Wards HC at Incarnate Word for 2 years and recruited him.
In 19 games, Ward had 71 TDs and 7000 yards taking his team deep in the FCS playoffs and was runner up for the FCS Heisman
OU fans act like it’s a Disney movie where Arbuckle found him throwing into a tire on the side of the road and he turned him into a Heisman. The guy was a monster at Incarnate Word and said when he went to Wazzou he owed everything to Kinne
I like Arbuckle but to just say “he made” Ward is not true.

Wrong. Decent reports are saying he's looking extremely comfortable in the offense now. He just got here so ofcourse the first week of camp would be a bit iffy. He's looking very much in command of things though. We got ourselves a winner I'm telling you now.

No I think it’s because he identified and brought in not just Ward, but followed it with Mateer who has AA upside depending on how things shake out in Norman.
I have no idea who made the light come on for Ward, but when someone has two elite QBs in a row it’s very likely not an accident.

In his picture he's holding up 4 fingers.... because he's number 4! Very clever Joey. Very clever indeed.

Ward went to Wazzou in 22, Arbuckle went to Wazzou in 23. Eric Morris was the Oc at Wazzou who coached him at Incarnate Word and recruited him to Wazzou.
Also
quote:
Eric Morris, the current North Texas head coach, recruited John Mateer to Washington State University. Morris, who was the offensive coordinator at WSU at the time, brought Mateer with him when he joined the program. Mateer is from Texas and Morris recruited him at Incarnate Word. This was Mateer's only Power 5 offer, according to Sports Illustrated.

Not that it really matters but Augilar is only a “UCLA transfer” because he transferred there on Dec 28, 2024, and left in April 2025 after Nico Iamaleava transferred to UCLA. Augilar played the last two seasons for Appalachian State.
Doesn't sound like UCLA was all that impressed with the App State kid.

Well one thing is for sure he likes to sling it.

Who are the other Latino QBs you're talking about?

Do you think we care what the UCLA staff thinks? This season can't get here quickly enough.

That could be accurate, I'm neither an OU or Washington State fan.
I would point out that a primary recruiter isn't the same the coach or analyst who identified or developed that player on campus.

i get it but I'm also saying Morris was Wards OC and he had a great year under him, then left and Arbuckle came in and Mateer had basically the exact same stats, then took off once he got to Miami, so just saying Arbuckle was the QB whisperer out of that is a long stretch.
