Blackburn told Kiffin specifically to stop making calls and not to make off-campus trips outside the rules and Kiffin did it anyway.

So is this an example of an institution that lacks the ability to control it's own coaches? If Kiffin "did it anyway", then why the hell wasn's he fired?

BTW, IMO Pearl has been punished enough by UT. He held a freaking BBQ - he knew it was a secondary and lied about it to try to coverup... He's been docked pay and suspended from coaching his team for 8 games, IMO that's enough.

But you are a liar though right?

That's pretty much it. He acted like a pissy-arse, spoiled rotten brat and was very unprofessional. He allowed his asst coaches to act the same way - Ed and the Wild Boyz with their shirts off....

I've lied before. Fortunately, I've never been stupid enough for my lies to get a major program in trouble. I guess I'm lucky that way.

Agreed, but that's not how the NCAA will see it.

well there was the lack of qualifications thing

his primary claim to fame was being groused about and disparaged by the crypt keeper shortly before Tenn hired him

Seeing as UT is a major program with some standing.... hiring a guy with little in the way of credentials was kinda shocking to me

I thought then and still think now that Kiffin is a good coach. Having said that, he's thumbed his nose at those in authority way too much and has attracted too much of the wrong attention. I seriously doubt that anything he does or has done is any more severe than what is occurring at any program around the country. But the NCAA wants to show him who's boss.

Kiffin has done nothing to show he's a good coach. He's proven he is an excellent recruiter, but not a good coach.

Kiffen was a known quantity when Tenn hired him.
He is the CFB equivalent of a GRIFTER.
He lacks personal honor and is unworthy of a job with as much juice as the Tenn job.
It was all there, prior to the hiring.
If Tenn Admin ignored it, shame on them and they deserve what they get.
I do NOT blame the average VOL fan for hopping aboard the KIFFEN train, that's what fans do, they circle the wagons.
Every other fanbase in the conference would do the same.
But let's not pretend Kiffen wasn't a known quantity.
And it looks like Tenn football is in good hands now, and you Vols can move on.
As for Tenn basketball, I'm unqualified to offer an opinion.

The NCAA LOA agrees with this.

I think he's good with quarterbacks but I haven't seen any evidence he's a good head coach. His teams have let down games and his best game ever is probably a close loss to alabama

To me that sounds more like charlie weiss than bob stoops

Unless the NCAA prevents it, Kiffin will eventually have to much talent and too good of a staff not to have a good amount of success, at least at the college level.

That staff didn't do a damn thing at UT, nor has it done anything at SC. I'll wait until they prove it on the field to name his staff's the end all be all.

Disagree with the first part, and as far as the second part, they won't be able to do too much until USC's NCAA issues pass.

He hasn't had a #1 recruiting class yet.
