He's also been in "rehab" since the incident.

I don't think that it helped.

Why stop at driving offenses? Doesn't make sense to only charge minors as adults for driving offenses.

We recently had a similar incident in Missouri. A 16 year old in a pickup hit a Mennonite buggy killing most of a young family.

It was on a straight stretch, daylight and he never slowed.

That’s because treatment only helps those who actually want help. If the kid has been doing the same shite then he obviously is fine with his life choices.

From what I’ve read, this kid’s parents raised an arrogant, entitled little punk. He’s about to get an initiation into the real world.

First, I wanted mercy on him, but his action after the crash have shown that he gives zero fricks about what he did. Lock him up and throw away the key.

If we’re just going to arbitrarily decide who is or isn’t a minor, then we should just do away with a juvenile justice system altogether. Or any sense of justice for that matter.

It's not arbitrarily done, it's based on the situation and for reason.

100% this. His actions following only show a complete lack of remorse.

He's a danger to himself and society, regardless of age.

I would imagine he's going to be taught "hard lessons" every day by large black men in prison. Couldn't happen to a better guy. Congrats on the sex you little piece of shite!

was more of a glancing blow, where he ended up across the intersection.
Which, in a terrible twist of fate, allowed him to survive and more caused the deaths of the Brambletts, by their head and necks to whip back at an angle missing their head restraints.
Had the crash occurred head on( or rear on) the kid would have absorbed a more than likely fatal amount of energy and the Brambletts head and necks would have snapped back directly to the Toyota's head restraint, possibly saving them

This is an incredibly tragic situation, but reading this provide's hope that they passed immediately from their neck injury, no suffering involved.

Hasn't he had repeated issues showing almost no remorse or showing that he actually learned from his mistakes?

yep, believe he has been ticketed twice for reckless driving AFTER this incident. How his license hadn't been immediately suspended is shocking and sad

How his parent's didn't take the keys or why he wasn't on house arrest after he killed 2 people is sad.

Wishing rape on a 16 year old “everyday” seems a bit much. Since he’s 16 and likely won’t be looking at life in prison it’s in our best interest for him to get rehabilitated since he’ll eventually be back out, if he does any time at all. Just because he’s a shite person doesn’t mean you have to be.

reckless manslaughter

Why the light charge?

Why not:
quote:

Second-Degree Murder

A person commits second-degree murder by recklessly engaging in conduct that creates a “grave risk of death” to another person under circumstances that show an “extreme indifference to human life.”

The difference between manslaughter and second-degree murder is a matter of degree. And the dividing line isn’t always clear. However, in general, second-degree murder requires proof of a more culpable mental state than recklessness (the mental state for manslaughter).

Because they're likely shitty people too, which may very well be why their son turned out to be one

He went out and did more stupid things while these charges were still pending? That is a blinding level of stupid. I was under the impression that when his second brush happened this had been resolved. I still can't believe his parents gave him his keys back.

His attorney got him rehab after he racked up two more excessive speeding and reckless driving tickets a few months after he'd already killed two people in an effort to show he has drug problems. He didn't get DUI's, just speeding tickets. I

Why he was never placed on house arrest after he'd already killed people or why his parents choose to allow him the privilege of driving a vehicle is beyond me.

One of our posters has indicated he has a non-traditional parental situation. He didn't elaborate beyond that. Regardless, I agree. His parents/guardians have failed miserably both prior to & after the wreck.
