Just about every SEC corner ran the forty faster.

Great talent and won't fall far into the second if he doesn't go in the first, but I thought he'd have faster straight line speed.

4.51 and 4.55 testing times.

Lot of people at Bama thought he should be a slot/safety guy, but he was lights out last year and proved me wrong.

Not sure I’d want him on a Tyreek Hill or a healthy Jaylen Waddle style burner, but if on the field results matter the guy was legit last year.

I’ve been keeping up with the draft, watching to see if Edgerrin Cooper can get himself into the 1st Round. Cooper is as fast as Arnold.

Agree. From film, you can see why the NFL likes him. He plays smart/in phase, has length & is a willing tackler on the edge. You would like to see those 40 times at least a hair faster for a #1 corner though.

People really overestimate how important raw speed is for a corner. Give me the guy with great reaction time (so Arnold) over a guy with even average reaction time who is faster.

Kind of like with fast receivers, if they aren't also good route runners then all their amazing speed is doing is taking them out of position faster.

Man like 10 CB’s ran under 4.5. Several running in the 4.4s and 4.3’s, with one on the 4.2’s. A 4.5 right now at CB looks pedestrian this year. That’s wild af. I wonder how the WRs will do.

Gotta admit, a Vol fan saying this after Hyatt is kind of shocking. Good for you.

Look at the Chiefs corners. McDuffie was a tad smaller but ran 4.44. Sneed is comp in size but ran a 4.37. That’s who everyone is looking for in this draft. Dudes who give them the flexibility to go man & turn up the heat like Spags did after halftime of the Super Bowl. They won because of that adjustment.

I do believe that the sub 4.5’s guys have the recovery speed to catch up and make a play on a ball in the air even if they got beat off the line. Anything over 4.5, if you’re beat, you’re beat. You have to play basically perfect fundamentals at that point.

18 CB’s ran sub 4.5s. 7 Safety’s ran sub 4.5’s. Dang, there is some speed on defense this year.

Speed is fun, don't get me wrong but the data is pretty clear. When you get to the upper echelon of speed there are more busts or journeyman types than actual impactful NFL players, at least at WR.

FSU WR Keon Coleman had the 2nd slowest 40 at 4.61, but had the fastest gauntlet with a high speed of 20.36 MPH. He had the 2nd highest go route speed at 21.71 MPH.

Sneed was bad his 1st 2 years with the Chiefs. He was just a special teams player. KC’s DB coach Dave Merritt is the best in the NFL he has 5 SB rings as a coach. Merritt has turned 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks into really good NFL players and starters. He turned undrafted Chavarius Ward into a All-Pro. Sneed has learned from the best.

40 is overrated especially for DB’s it’s more about technique.

Are you sure those are not Kool-Aid McKinstry's numbers?

I've got Arnold at 4.50 which there's not much difference. I'm actually surprised Kool-Aid ran a sub 4.6.

Arnold’s 40 time is listed as 4.50 on the NFL’s combine website.

The difference between a guy that runs a 4.4 and a 4.5 is pretty negligible in coverage. If a wide receiver with 4.4 speed were to run a fly pattern against a cb with 4.5 speed, there would be less than 2 feet of separation at 40 yards. Agility and reaction time is much more important.
