Historically that is true. However, now we are the bigger school, and that donor gap will continue to grow as we churn out more and more grads. Grads in the technical fields and business, not liberal arts.

I think at last count, Texas was up to 13-14 billionaires, and their tech alums crap $$$, I go to Austin for business many times, seems like every Texas alum I meet in tech (facebook, google, apple, oracle, etc.) under 30 is making $250k plus, amazing time to be young and making great coin

Texas alums getting rich in

Law
Medicine
Entertainment
Engineering
Oil
Tech
Business

Nobody claimed Texas was going away. They just cannot outbid everybody anymore either. We will see not only who has the wealthiest donors but the ones that care the most about college athletics as well.

I know the money UTA has - some of my best friends went there

You mean what Alabama did under bear and is doing under saban

Alabama won so much with those 2 guys because they are arguably the best 2 to ever coach college football. Alabama won 1 national title between Bryant and Saban. Without looking it up I think Bryant retired in 1982, and Saban was hired in 2007.

If a few programs, and I mean damn few, can buy the most elite players every single year, then that is not because a tremendous stroke of luck hiring the 2 best coaches ever, but because boosters are buying the best players every year. And there wouldn't be 30 years between titles (ok. Forgot about 1992 title) but we'd be watching Texas vs USC every year.

Most college sports programs lose money and depend on the football program to make enough money to sustain the rest of the programs. When there is no chance for all those teams to win a title, eventually interest will wane and so there goes the money. Bowl games mean nothing anymore. The major football playing schools do it because with the right coach (see Saban and Bryant) they have a chance to win it all. When those few programs buy all the elite programs, that chance is gone, the interest in the season is gone, the money is eventually gone.

It isn't sustainable. If NIL isn't properly regulated, it will kill the golden goose that generates so much money. And that, as always that, is why it will be regulated and enforced. Otherwise, hello NFL minor league.

A&M fans are dumb. They don't realize the only reason they had success is because they were one of the few schools who openly cheated last recruiting cycle.

And the reason A&M wasn’t successful in the past is because we know full well we can’t use our money to pay recruits. And for the most part we didn’t. Others did. We tried once and it cost us a coach. So we built an enormous compliance department and now have lawyers check everything

I don't know why Aggies on this site pretend they aren't tied for the lead in NCAA violations in this conference.

Y'all have been paying players, hell, you bought Eric Dickerson a car and he didn't even go to A&M.

Now it’s legal. And we can use our money. It ain’t like it used to be.

It's "legal" by state law but is still an NCAA violation.

First - I’ll admit that I don’t like the “sucks to be poor” talking point

It reeks of what the Tea-sippers in Austin used to say.

Second - no, A&M has not always been rich. A&M used to be the small school underdog for 100 years. The real growth has only been in the last 25 years or so.

We couldn’t pay big bucks to our players until now. Now it’s free, clear and legal. I hope Elon starts to support the school now that he’s a Texan.

You can use NIL as a tool to recruit.

You can say to a player “Athletes A, B and C made x amount per year. If a player of your caliber were to go here, you would have an excellent opportunity to do as well or greater…” Saban basically did this publicly advertising Bryce Young’s NIL figures (which were legal).

You just can’t have the player sign an NIL contract tying him to that school before he gets on campus. The NCAA guidelines are vague and there are a lot smarter people than you or me finding all the loopholes.

It’s honestly so sad and not surprising at all they keep saying these things. Oh! Look at me! I’m lucky my state produces oil, too bad you can’t produce as much oil to keep up! That’s the fricking problem, we live in states that don’t have as much of that natural resource. Way to go you motherfrickers.
