I haven't been to a game at Bryant-Denny in several years, but it was made quite clear that if you ran onto the field, you would be promptly arrested and prosecuted. Everyone believed it. I do remember a game at Legion Field when Tennessee won, and several UTK fans rushed the field defying the order to stay off. Numerous Volunteers were arrested, and there was a lot of controversy. Needless to say, they were prosecuted and paid fines. Peyton Manning was the quarterback. All of this to say that a powerful factor in Tide fans staying off the field is the threat of arrest, and they believe it. It is an example other schools should follow. Sooner or later, someone is going to be seriously injured when a deranged mob rushes the field.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I read it just fine without having a subscription. Here's the last paragraph...
"And should Alabama’s unwritten tradition continue, that’ll avoid direct contributions to the SEC scholarships long after leaving Legion Field and its brief and dodgy history of field storming to the yellowed pages of archived newspapers."

Meh, more folks have been injured in attempts to stop it from happening than have actually been injured while rushing the field.
The most dangerous part is the falling goalposts so obviously an effort needs to be made to lower them or secure them if a field rushing occurs.

I only recall Kansas one time and Oklahoma State maybe half the time they beat OU but that wasn't too many times.
91-20-7
I suppose they even stormed the field for a tie.

I don’t remember Tenn fans rushing the field when Manning played in Bham. He did lead the band.

The last time Alabama had a legitimate field storming was roughly 20 years before Alabama had black players.
If any Bama students who ran on the field that day are still alive they are in their late 80s to early 90s now.

Automatic $1 million fine 1st offense,$3 million 2nd offense and forfeit plus $5 million 3rd offense.Any student caught storming automatically expelled and any season ticket holder banned for a minimum 3 years.
It's just trashy and doesn't belong in the SEC.

I’ve been a Dawg my entire life. I can only remember UGA storming the field twice. Once in 1980 when we won the natty and once years ago when we finally beat UT. Georgia and Bama have a very short history of field storming. We both expect to win every time we take the field so winning isn’t a huge surprise. That’s what we do.

Usually, yes. But at least WE know what getting a high rank feels like.

Yup. I remember back in 2000 when we beat TN. I was only 13 but I definitely remember that being a huge deal at the time.
Good for Jim Donnan getting that notch.

I thought State's last time was a win over OM in 1999 when we tore down the goal posts. After that our AD got weirdly strict about it, even installing hinged goal posts that officials would lay down at game's end. He would have dozens of employees guarding the field. Weirdo.
In more recent times, we haven't won a game worth storming. Maybe this year!
