Yeah and college football lends itself to large attendance because there are so few games, only 6 or 7 home games a year and the format is such that every one of those games is significant.

I understand that, but throw in the fact that 90-100 thousand fans fill those stadium along with many thousands more outside the stadium, AND all the eyeballs watching on TV.

Was gonna say, "too bad it's never been filled" but I would imagine attendance is mandatory.

Like, uber mandatory.

WCW ran a PPV there back in early 95 and crammed 190,000 people in there on the second day of the show. SI did neat story about it a few years ago on the 20th anniversary.

In all fairness, that's really all there is to follow in Alabama ad far as sports are concerned...besides the annual hillbilly convention in talladega.

He's obviously not a European soccer van.

True, not a van. He is, however, a lifelong fan and past board member of Norwich City FC. The Canaries are a smaller team (their stadium, Carrow Road has a capacity of 27k), but have been in the Premier League as recently as 2016 before being relegated. They have just been promoted back to the Premier League for the 2019-2020 season.

I think what he is reacting to is the "pageantry" of college football. European football doesn't have marching bands or cheerleaders (or jet flyovers, for that matter), just some kids that typically accompany the teams out of the tunnel before the match. Every now and then they'll have a moment of silence to remember some past tragedy, but that's about it. Also, no national anthem. Generally the only singing comes from the supporters themselves...

No. See photo on first page. He was in all the Blackadder series with Rowan Atkinson (Mr, Bean) and Hugh Laurie, long before Laurie starred in "House."

Atkinson is a genius, and not just a comedic one. He has a master's in electrical engineering from Oxford.

Not to take thread in different direction, but you bring up Oxford.

I always thought individuals who attended university in Oxford (UK, not MS) all attended one university. Oxford is actually made up of many small universities. Just a tidbit that surprised me from my visit there.
