Byrne's statement is performative. Much like a politician, you have to parrot the injustice narrative. Not because you fully buy into it, but because you have to in order to placate your fan base and represent your conference.
In case anyone thinks this is a dig at Bama, any AD would do it in the same situation.

Hey Byrne, your 3 losses were all in the SEC.
You voted for expansion didn't you?

That’s quite the word salad to just say “we shouldn’t have had our doors blown off by Oklahoma”.

So tell us then the focus on evaluating playing P4 OOC opponents in the future. Enlighten us because this is the what both Saban and Byrne are now spouting.
Its not rocket science, play less teams with the ability to beat you and beat you up because the win over Houston Bible College is not significantly weighted lower than a win over Wisconsin, USC, Michigan etc

So i dont understand this... Alabama's losses were all in conference, just 2 of them were very bad losses to bad teams that are sec teams They are threatening to schedule even softer opponents than western Kentucky since they did not make the playoffs?
Evidently the gauntlet of WKU, South Florida, the weakest Wisconsin team in years, and Mercer just exacted too much a toll on the fellas to meet the challenge of Vandy or this year’s diet version of OU.
The whining is surprising (to me anyway) and a little unbecoming of a program with the national stature of Bama.

I'd have no problem playing 5 or 6 patsies every year.
In years past Alabama, was notorious for playing Charmin soft schedules. Don't give us that bullshite like you played a tough schedule every year. You did not.

Alabama played in the SEC West. You need to sit this one out. Alabama also didn't get to play Alabama to boost their schedule like some of you.

Everyone is piling on Bama but South Carolina played a schedule that SMU would have only won 5 games in

Them's some mahty salty tears consid'rin' how far Tuscaloosy is from Mobile!
Mebbe don't lose to Vandy an' then git clobbered by Okie if you want to be considered a top 12 team.

I think it’s fair to say that scheduling difficult OOC games doesn’t really matter anymore. Just win as many games as you can, even if your OOC schedule is weak. Obviously that wouldn’t have helped Bama this year, but for the future there’s no reason to make the schedule more difficult than it needs to be.
I agree 100%. Unless you have an in-state rival that you need to play for recruiting, then no incentive. Indiana went 11-1 [and I am glad they got in] but their OOC schedule was week and their BIG schedule only required them to play Ohio State. They missed Oregon and Penn State and caught Michigan in a transition year (1st year pot Harbaugh).
LSU and Clemson should end their home and home and LSU should get Tulane on the phone and get that game for game 1 next year. Tulane is a top 30 type team and had they won their Conference Title game vs Army they would be ranked around 19th where Army is today. A few years ago they beat Lincoln Riley's USC team with C. Williams the Heisman trophy winner.
The goal now is to get into the playoffs, the committee is telling you they value Win/Loss records. I know people say well the 9-3 SEC teams loss 3 league games, that is true, but why have an extra game vs a P4 team when you have the 8 game SEC grind (Lane was right with his Presser today about that).

Filled your OOC schedules with patsies every year.
Saban also had the fortune of catching Tennessee in the worst period in the history of their program.

Alabama fans are gay. Shouldn't have looked like shite against Auburn. Just be thankful to Freeze and Thorne that you were even in that position yesterday. Enjoy your bowl game.

Makes a 9th SEC game senseless, too.

I remember when people were claiming the extra playoff spots would mean an increase in quality games because nobody had to worry about losing a few games in the season.

The precedent set moving forward is that it’s clear that you schedule the easiest opponents possible out of conference since winning seems to be the only thing that matters - not quality of competition.
We get it. Alabama missed the playoffs, therefore the system is broken.

WKU
USF
Mercer
6-6 Vandy
6-6 OU
5-7 Auburn
It seems like Bama did play 6 patsies this year. The problem is that they went 4-2 against that gauntlet.
