If they had huddles before the official call was made yes. After , nope.

It was a “bad” call. Was good defense. Crowd reaction was BAD. SEC officiating is HORRENDOUS. As bad as mustard bottles. A shite show all around.

Would love to see if we get an angle during the aftermath of all this where we can see the actions of the “calling official” over the span of those minutes

I've seen refs confer after making the call for the penalty and reversing it. That's not too outlandish.
What sets this one apart is that the ready to play signal was given. The play clock was running down and UGA was going to run a play, but couldn't because the fans threw bottles on the field.

The hypothetical discussion. Why did you call pass interference? Because blah blah. Other official “no he didn’t do blah blah blah” there weren’t three officials looking that close. One guy called it. They looked at board. Crowed gave them more time. Didn’t want a call like that to lead to Texas total blowout fearing shame and illegally changes call

Georgia was lined up for a play
There was no “oops” discussion. They called the penalty and enforced it. Up until they didn’t

The game officials gathered to discuss the play, which is permitted to ensure the proper penalty is enforced, at which time the calling official reported that he erred, and a foul should not have been called for defensive pass interference. Consequently, Texas was awarded the ball at the Texas 9 yard line.
Georgia lined up on the ball and would have snapped it if it hadn’t been for all the Texas fans throwing shite. I’m calling BS on the referees explanation.

Exactly. And the refs should be held accountable. Looks like Texas is the new Bama. The refs sweet little darling but without all the hardware

Why wasn’t a penalty enforced for all of the shite thrown on the field?

It was the right call. But just a call that hasn’t ever happened. Still kicked their arse

“He just said the guy got it wrong,” Smart shared with reporters in his postgame press conference when asked what he had been told by officials. “The guy called it on the wrong guy, which it took him a long time to realize that.” “It’s one of those things that I don’t know what I’m allowed to say or not say,” Smart continued, “so I won’t comment because I want to respect the wishes of the SEC office.”
More from Smart.

So if throwing debris on the field is against SEC policy, why not flag the crowd? It would be offsetting penalties and Georgia gets the down over.
Posted on 10/20/24 at 7:14 am to CNB
These discussions they mention to pick up a flag happen immediately and usually before the penalty is announced. I do believe there have been very rare instances where they announce it, discuss immediately after the announcement, and rescind the penalty.
But to call it, set the teams back up, have the offense line up to call a play, delay due to fan disruption, and then overturn the penalty? That was one of the most absurd examples of home cooking I have ever seen.

I didn’t watch the game but I thought Texas intercepted the pass at the Georgia 46 and returned it to the Georgia 9.

I’m glad they reversed it. No excuses from Texas now

So in the future, if there is a close play that merits review, but the offensive is hurrying up to the line to snap the ball, what is stopping fans from tossing bottles onto the field to delay the game?
This is a can of worms that has just been opened. Thanks SEC refs...
