Most LSU fans want Lane, but many aren’t confident we will get him. I just don’t want us to end up with a guy like Drinkwitz. I’d rather roll with a cheaper younger option in case we have to move on again quickly. The problem we have is Verge and the LSU search committee will likely make the laziest hire possible. We will likely overpay for a coach big time. We will end up paying Drinkwitz top 5 money or some crazy crap like that.

I understand. I don’t completely disagree. Lane is a good coach though. You and I both know our coaching search likely won’t yield good results. Finding a good young coach and a fit for LSU is possible, but not likely. LSU will have to overpay for its lack of competence at AD and in its administration.
Lane is the most proven coach we can get. If we had a good AD and coaching search I’d be ok with hiring a coordinator or younger head coach. LSU won’t be doing that kind of due diligence. Our best bet is a lazy hire we can have a reasonable chance of success. Lane fits that description. Lane should be our guy. He is a good coach.
How about a 29 game sample? LOL, I’m estimating but Lagway has around 22 interceptions in his last 20 or so games. Jayden had 29 games and 13 interceptions at ASU.

Lane is the best we will get. We can take a chance on a young coach or coordinator but that requires a lot of research on a coach. LSU and Verge won’t do that kind of research so they need to overpay for a good coach.

As long as you compare like for like. If you don’t include non conference games for either team or season. South Carolina likely played a non conference game against a bad team too.
