Shaw was the only elite qb he had at sc.

Mitchell, Garcia, and Thompson were solid

Motherfricker rode Garcia for way too long instead of Shaw when he was playing poorly
He had it in the bag. Problem was that the bag was small, brown, and paper.

And Shaw rode the bench for far too long behind Garcia while Garcia herp'd and derp'd for 60 minutes a game

Also don't agree about Mitchell. He was decent but Thompson and Garcia were a lot better.

I guess the same reason he derped around with Hurts all season long. He was teaching the WR's a lesson about playing hard even though they know they will never get the ball, and taught the RB's how to run vs 11 man boxes.

Now they are truly tough as nails, and next seasons title will be a cake walk for all concerned.

Well played, Sabah

I would've switched (permanently) to Tua during the Mississippi State game.

The old ball sack is jealous of Saban.
Yeah, Spurrier tried for years to beat Coach Bryant's record. He couldn't do it; but Coach Saban has tried Bryant's record in national championships & may actually beat him. So, Spurrier is jealous.

I've heard it said that Saban thought about making the change early. But, he waited purposefully until the start of the 3rd so Smart couldn't game plan the 2nd half against the different look offense during half-time. Second half, hurry up, throwing downfield, and Ga never got into the flow because they couldn't adjust at half time.

If this is true, Saban is playing a deeper chess game than most coaches.

I mean Scott Frost and countless other coaches have said the same thing. Why all the hate?

LOL

So, in this version of reality, saban realized he had a BETTER option at Qb on the bench but intentionally WAITED until the 2nd half while going down 0-13, simply because of gameplanning? As I said, he gave Hurts every possible opportunity he could before realizing it simply wasn't going to work, then turned to the new guy who can actually throw (unlike hurts). Although everyone knows saban is the best ever, he would absolutely not in any universe intentionally play a worse player simply for some kind of mental edge. If he thought Tua was the better option in the 2nd quarter, Tua would've played in the 2nd quarter.

Indeed. The man is truly one of the best coaches to ever walk the sidelines in the SEC, but he was nothing but a quip machine in his last couple of years at South Carolina. His most endearing legacy, at least to me, will be quitting on South Carolina mid-season simply because he didn't want to have a losing season on his coaching record. Everyone bitches when a player transfers halfway through a season because he's angry about playing time. But when a legendary head coach calls it quits in the middle of October, we have to praise and honor his decision.

The worst part is he quit recruiting in 2013.

It's funny to me when people say Saban was so "courageous" or "ballsy" to play Tua in the second half.

I think what they mean by this is putting a freshman in such an atmosphere when he’s never played meaningful snaps runs a risk of ruining him for the future if he crumbles under the pressure. It happened at LSU in 2008 during the regular season when Jarrett Lee had to play before he was ready. The kid never really recovered. Fortunately for Bama, Tua handled the moment with a lot of poise.

I heard the interview where he said this... he said it completely jokingly.

He wasn’t giving a very serious analysis of the situation.

And I agree, it was a gamble. But it's kinda not really a "gamble" if you have no other option, and he had no othehr option. Putting hurts back out there in the 2nd half simply wasn't a choice, thaht would be a surefire recipe for a loss. Also Tua overcame an early 3 and out, and interception, and if we had sacked him on that long run who knows where his psyche is at that point. But you gotta hand it to him, he balled out of control. Really don't want to have to play him again.
