It all depends on if they're willing to modernize their offense or not. UGA has way more weapons than Wake Forest ever did, but you put Newman under center and throw the ball 20-25 times a game you'll get crap results regardless. I think UGA revolutionizing their offense or not is the story of the offseason. I think that's really their last step they need to take to really be that big time threat to win a title. Yes they were very close with the boring offense a few years back, but still, modernizing the offense would only make them a lot better and get more out of the higher skilled players.

I don't know how UGA changes the offense much without a spring and most likely not much of a fall. Not as bad as having a true freshman coming in but only marginally better.

yes you are suppose to believe the light will turn on. A&M started more freshman and sophomores by year end than you think. It was pretty obvious the 2019 team did not have the talent to really compete against the 5 top 10 teams they faced.

What you really look for is the % of production these returning starters actually bring into 2020.

I'll believe it when I see it. But as things stand today, I wouldn't go as far as expecting anything grand. Texas A&M will need to make a vast improvement from last year to contend in 2020.

If the production was poor one year, returning a greater % of said production isn't necessarily a positive nor would it necessarily rise to the level of "best we've seen since we joined the SEC."

Vast?
Not sure I agree with that characterization.

1) Go look at our schedule from last year.
2) Now look at our schedule this year.
3) Check out the percentage of returning players we have.

Apart from the LSU game, we were far from being a bad team in ‘19-‘20.

You said they were "brand new and bad". They had 3 upper class men and they only gave up 7 more sacks than UGA's line who was highly rated.

-- edit >> didn't see your "as in starters" comment.
I'm confused as to what you're getting at -- our OL certainly wasn't good last year, even though it did have some upperclassmen. It'll likely be a bit better this season given the stability, but there probably is a ceiling on how good it can be considering the relative lack of talent. As I've said about our WRs over the past few years -- there's a lot of pro talent there. As for the OL -- only the State grad transfer looks like an NFL prospect.

Mullen has shown he can scheme around a poor OL, though. But the OL is the key to us either going 11-2 again or winning the East. Need better line play on both sides to beat UGA.

lost by 14+ in 3 of your 5 losses. Lost to Auburn at home. In all of your losses, your offense was pretty bad. Defense was up and down throughout the season, but largely pretty decent. Overall, for the season A&M had the 8th ranked defense and 8th ranked offense. I don't think A&M was a bad team, I think they were a pretty average team by SEC standards.

Your schedule next year still has three losses from last year's schedule. Two of those games will be on the road (Auburn and Alabama). I also wouldn't just go ahead and mark the rest of your schedule as 9-0. I see likely guaranteed wins against Abeline, North Texas, Fresno St, Arkansas, Vandy and USCe. With Ole Miss and State having new coaches, they're kind of wild cards to me right now. That leaves Colorado, and I'll be honest, I don't know enough about them to really speak about how you match-up with them

A&M should do better in 2020, but they still have to go through the meat grinder of the West, and I haven't seen anything from Mond and crew to think they're going to contend yet.

1. You lost by 22 points to Alabama at home.

2. You beat garbage arse Arkansas by 4 points.

3. You couldn't manage a single rushing yard vs. Georgia.

It wasn’t a perfect season.
I didn’t say otherwise.
We didn’t think for one second we’d beat Alabama and/or Georgia.

As for Arkansas ... that game is witchery—every single year.
Wouldn’t surprise me if that game is our only loss this year.

But I’m fine with agreeing to disagree with your overall sentiment.
Same with that of your compadre.

I would say your biggest "win" was only losing by 14 to Clemson.

So we were a bad team because of a WIN and a one score loss to a top 5 team on the road? Hmm, that’s some quality perspective.

Will likely get a spring make up in June or July, and a full fall practice

You just said you were far from being a bad team.

You lost to every decent team you played including at home to Auburn.

We were far from being a bad team.
And it was a tough year.
How are those two variables mutually exclusive?

We disagree.
I’m fine with that.

I mean you can be neither good nor bad. Those aren't the only two options. I think they were average

A&M was a top 20-30 team nothing better in 2019. Vegas has O/U set for 9.5 wins. A&M has to get past Auburn to make anything of this season.

Based on these standings, SEC is having a big down season when it comes to QB talent. I think we all knew this coming into this season. We just have a lot of Unknowns right now. By the end of the season, I bet we have an additional 1 or 2 QB’s break the top 15/top 10.

Your link and Myles Brennan at # 24 is TOTAL BS

These morons that write crap to sell mags know NOTHING!!!

Myles Brennan is the # 6 QB (Preseason Heisman Odds)

1. Justin Fields +350* ($100 bet = $350)
2. Trevor Lawrence +450
3. Jamie Newman +1000
4. Spencer Rattler +1200
5. D'Eriq King +1300
6. Myles Brennan +2000

$100 bet on Myles Brennan nets $2000

Others
Sam Ehlinger +2000
Mac Jones +2000

Mark these words!

I can guarantee Cupcake Eater Sunshine will not win the Heisman. They did this same crap last year and Sunshine wasn’t a finalist. He has zero chance for a Heisman.

Justin Fields is a Top 5 QB and will be a Heisman Finalist again this year.

Spencer Rattler is a damned joke. All hype, he has a lot less time in the system and less talent than Myles Brennan. Not Top 10

King at Houston is a badass and could make it as one of the 4 finalists.

Brennan has the best shot to be a finalist between Mac Jones and Sam Ehlinger

Unless LSU runs the table and beats GA or FL (2nd time), I think Fields (OSU) takes the Heisman.
