SP+ percentile ratings for the past 15 college football national champions
Posted by E.Hubble

1. 2020 Alabama (99.6th percentile)
2. 2022 Georgia (99.6)
3. 2021 Georgia (99.5)
4. 2012 Alabama (99.4)
5. 2008 Florida (99.4)
6. 2018 Clemson (99.2)
7. 2019 LSU (99.1)
SP+ uses play-by-play data to evaluate teams on five factors that identified as being highly correlated with winning: efficiency, explosiveness, field position, finishing drives, and turnovers. The overall SP+ rating is a weighted average of the five factors.

There you go.
Science, bitches.
Science, bitches.
All I know is Georgia only had to beat the 2nd best team in the SEC West, the 2nd place team in the Big 10, and the 2nd place team in the Big 12 to win the title. What a cakewalk.

All I know is I'm taking Joe Burrow and his surrounding cast vs Lil Stet and the boys 10/10 times.
I would venture that most here would agree outside of Georgia fans and the assortment of trolls who are inherently triggered by LSU.
But that's just my opinion.

This is the same system that had Bama ‘19 ahead of LSU ‘19, after LSU won in Tuscaloosa, lol.
Oh, it had Georgia beating TCU 34-24.
Trash.

Guy who made that fully admits that it is based on the whole year and that LSU's bad defense for two thirds of the season hurt them big time.
Said if they had played the kind of defense they did the last couple of regular season and then the post season games all year, number one or close to it.

And as it turned out, the second best team in the nation, so there is that.

Also UGA beat the best team in the west and the second best team in the SEC East like rented mules. Alabama lost to both of them....

Those are awful. The worst one is Clemson 2016. That team was not nearly as good as the one that lost to Bama the year before. Watson carried them and their net yards per play ranking was one of the lowest for any CFP champion.
