OU president David Boren retired. That was the writing on the wall for any further ideas of OSU tagging along.

Sankey would have stopped Okie Lite at the door and asked for credentials.

Ofcourse. But with Boren still around, that would have stopped OU as well. Once he was out of the way of progress, progress could far more easily be made - as has happened.

A lot of state legislators are Okie lite alums and beat their chest when OU announced the move. Never quite understood the argument they made about not including them in the move… perhaps if the rivalry was more balanced but OU beat them 91 times.

OU tried to get OkState into the SEC in 2010-2011 but it was denied with no Texas in the mix. Then again more recent but SEC would only take OU & Texas to start. Governor of Oklahoma is an OSU alum so I know they’ll continue to lobby as it’s good for the state’s land grant & research programs.

As someone from Houston that visited A&M, LSU, TCU, OU before choosing OSU…I think OkState will eventually get in as a plus one with ACC schools. Most of the OU fans on this board that have never stepped foot in an OU classroom will tell you differently.

I stepped foot in a lot of classrooms, took me forwever to graduate.
OSU isnt getting in.
Answer to the OP...David Boren left, new prez didn't have as soft a place for little bro.

at least OU had only a couple of hangers on. Alabama has Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU to support.

If OU is saxet's "bitch" having posted a 17-8 record vs the whorns since 2000 and MU has beaten OU 4 times since 1970 (out of 36 games played) what does that make MU to OU?

It's great for the state that its flagships are in separate big conferences.

The new XII looks like a fun conference with huge upside schools.

All I heard from everyone on every message board for the last billion years was that the oklahoma state legislature blah blah would never let the two schools get split up from being in the same conference.

The Oklahoma state legislature was not involved in the least. It was never brought up before the state House or Senate or even by a governor.

Former OU President David Boren was the person with the narrative that OU and OSU belong together forever and always. He retired and we moved.
