This is a great example of why Texas is Texas and most SEC schools, with the exception of Vanderbilt and Florida, are unremarkable institutions.
While we're busy being a serious university, y'all are wringing your hands over who gets to use the initials "UT."
Face it, if we decide we care enough about it, we're just going to take that too.

I recall some lore taught during the 90s when I attended that Tenn has trademark rights to UT east of the Mississippi and Texas west of it.

Seems to me this stuff has its own natural way of sorting itself out.

I guess that's why Texas fought Tennessee over the "UT" trademark.
Actually, this is already established in a settlement. "Under the agreement between the two schools, Tennessee gets to use the trademark east of the Mississippi River and in Louisiana's West Baton Rouge Parish, home of Southeastern Conference member Louisiana State University. Texas will own the trademark everywhere else west of the Mississippi."
So...for SEC purposes...
Texas is UT for: Texas, aTm, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri.
Tennessee is UT for: Tennessee, LSU, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

We were a school when Texas was Mexico.
If not for Tennesse, Texas would still be Mexico. There is a reason their largest city is named after a former Tennessee governor.
