DeBoer decides he doesn't want to be the fall guy for "post Saban Bama" and takes a reduced buyout just to be done with it.
Yeah I'm sure he will turn down tens & tens of millions of dollars to be the bigger man.

What a clown world take.

It'll cost Alabama $150mm before it's all said and done to pull the plug this year and hire a new staff and reload with players from the portal.

That's on these dumbass ADs for continuing to hamstring their AD with these ridiculous buyouts. The definition of insanity comes to mind.

for a decent hire… and more like $15+ mil per year for a Lanning, Cristobal

No one is leaving Oregon or Miami NIL money for Alabama

Usually this extended payouts are settled for a lump sum.

I don't see Bama moving on unless there is a total collapse (losing season).

You can get a whole lot of fingernail polish wearing players for this much $$.

I don't think we're there yet. But if it gets to that point I really think it might come to the point that both sides agree it's not working out and neither wants to continue. DeBoer decides he doesn't want to be the fall guy for "post Saban Bama" and takes a reduced buyout just to be done with it.

Please edumucate me on why anyone would ever take a reduced buyout. Both sides agreed to the terms that would apply in EXACTLY this situation when the agreement was signed. Why would the coach be willing to back away from that? The promise that Alabama would give him a good reference?

Bama has no one to blame but themselves. They started the salary craziness when they hired Saban

Alabama is too good of a job and people like him are FAR too competitive to do that. Not to mention he isn't going to give up money like that even if he thinks he can't do it.

bama has already spent $12M to buyout his previous contract. Add to this possible-but-unlikely buyout is his whole staff's contracts. And, as noted, any new HC is not coming for less than many millions, too, The new staff's contracts. That'd be pushing close to $100 M.

Throw on top of this the increase in NIL that would be necessary to build back a roster after a near certain mass exodus of players…. You’re talking an extra $10 mil per season in addition to the typical NIL costs for at least the first year or two.
You also forget the university is responsible for revenue sharing (20 million)

When Bama fans celebrated the ruling that NIL can still thrive with revenue sharing already in stow I warned them that was not a positive development, but the fools did a celebration dance anyhow because they know no better.

Every time I think how stupid it was for our AD to give Brian Kelly the contract he has, I have to remind myself that at least I'm not a Bama fan. Brian Kelly at least had a long record at a major school and was somewhat proven. Deboer's hiring was just off the wall and out of nowhere, considering Bama's history. They're wayyyyy too good to throw the kitchen sink at a guy like Deboer.

C'mon, man! We'll make it impossible for him to live there! We'll have his kids beat up in school. That wife'll be living in a prison in her own house. Brick, my azz, we'll throw Molotovs through the winder. We got options.

Oregon NIL money is one thing, Miami isn't even in the top 15.

I think Aubie knows a thing or two about paying former coaches to go away

True. It comes down to, is faith lost in the coach? If there is no faith that the coach can lead the team to realistic expectations, it’s time to pay him and move on.
