I’m going to type this in all caps because it is a scientific fact and deserves to be emphasized:

GUS MALZAHN, HEAD COACH OF UCF AND WINNER OF THE MUSIC CITY & BIRMINGHAM BOWLS, NOW MAKES MORE MONEY THAN NICK SABAN

Is there an Auburn link that details how this went down?

No. Nothing legitimate

Did AU go to a number of boosters & ask for the money?

I'm assuming it was the opposite. Boosters went to Greene and ponied-up the money, but who really knows.

But man, paying $21 million to fire Malzahn?

It's a lot and the contract was a bad decision. Luckily all the official people involved are no longer there. Just one booster, if you believe the stories.

This is even worse than the deal tu had with Charlie Strong in which South FL back loaded his contract so that tu paid most of his salary the first three years.

Oof.

No, this isn't not true.

Gustav's 2017 deal called for him to receive 75% of his remaining salary over the life of his contract at the time of his firing, with half due in a lump sum 30 days after his official termination date.

In rough terms, we owed him 75% X (4 years @ 7m) = 75% X $28m = $21m, with a lump sum of $10.5m due in 30 days. The remaining $10.5m is due in 4 annual installments of approximately $2.6m.

Based on his leaked UCF terms, he will be making around $2.3m per year. This plus his AU buyout means he will gross roughly $4.9m per season over the next 4 years, at which time AU's obligation to him will come to an end.

This amounts to a cut in pay of roughly $1m per year from what he would have earned had AU retained him, but it still places him near the top 10 in overall compensation based on the USA Today 2020 CFB salary analysis (his actual salary from UCF is identical to that of his predecessor, who was #62 on the list based on actual school pay).

Even if you amortized his $10.5m lump sum over the four years, his annual compensation would still only be $7.5m per year, which is still far below Saban's $9.1m salary (not including bonuses) paid by Bama in 2020.

I didn't think anyone could out to Tennessee in coaching blunders, but here's Auburn. No wonder the guy from Idaho came.

Yes. Steven Leath was just as big of an incompetent moron as Gus was. I think Leath took a payout from Gus to give him that contract.

UT just finished paying Butch Jones over $8 million not to coach, and owe Pruitt close to $13 million, and paid UCF $6 million to hire White/Heupel.

Of course they could get major NCAA sanctions and get away with not paying Pruitt, but that's a Faustian bargain at best.

I'd say our $21 million, while outrageous, pales in comparison to the nearly $27 million UT is on the hook for (not counting Heupel's salary).

Malzahn will receive annual guaranteed compensation of $2.3 million, which includes $500,000 in base salary and $1.8 million for radio and television shows, speaking engagements, and product endorsements.

Former UCF coach Josh Heupel followed former UCF athletics director Danny White to Tennessee.

The two owed the Knights $6.1 million under terms of their buyouts.

Looks like the GENIUSES at ole ROCKY TOP are paying The BARN's fired coach to coach at UCF.

I want to hear ole GUS lay claim the UCF national title they claim they won against the BARN while he was their head coach!!!

That might be funny if it wasn’t so shitty.

2X10X16 / 12 is 26.6667 board ft. That’s over a dollar per board foot
