If they were paid before turning pro and entering the draft, it would be a violation of NCAA rules.
You're absolutely right. It is a violation.

A difference is these players probably aren't at Alabama anymore.

He didn't pay them to return for their senior season because Penn State wanted them to, to make the football team better, they likely didn't know about said payments.
But they did know
quote:
Former financial adviser Marty Blazer, testifying for government, said in 2009 he had a NFL player as a client whose father was a Penn State assistant. Said that assistant asked him to pay a Penn State player’s father $10,000 so player would stay at PSU and not enter NFL Draft.

I missed that part.

Blazer testified that he did so at the encouragement of a Penn State assistant coach who informed Blazer that the player's family was under some financial distress. The payment was by check and the transaction happened at the home of the Penn State coach. At the time, Penn State's head coach was Joe Paterno. Blazer noted this meeting was arranged by a Nittany Lions assistant and made no reference to any other Penn State coach.
quote:
"The coach wanted the player to consider staying," Blazer said. "The player was leaning on coming out."
quote:So I’m not wrong, he paid for a Penn St player to stay in school and his payments to a UNC player brought sanctions on the school.
The NCAA previously uncovered and investigated much if not all of of what Blazer testified to doing at UNC. The NCAA punished North Carolina by placing its football program on probation, banning the Tar Heels from a bowl game in 2012, stripping it of 15 scholarships and forcing UNC to vacate all victories from the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

I read the Alabama related parts, I dont care about something that happened at Penn State 14 years ago.

Absolutely. But that was in 2002. LJ left in 2003. The NCAA statute of limitations is 4 years. PSU is definitely safe.
Appears so

The only coach implicated was from PSU, but he's been gone for many, many years. Even if he had been involved multiple times, I can't see the NCAA going back on that one.
Also, why the hell did Larry Johnson Sr. need $10k?

I was unaware that any Alabama asst. coaches got arrested over this incident.
Also this doesn't involve players who are currently at Alabama, unlike Auburn's.
Not exactly the same thing.

Antonio langam scenario... no not a big deal in the common sense world but if they receive money to sign with anyone once the go pro but are still playing that’s a big violation. How do you know if bama wasn’t directing them to get money from them till they go pro? Easy way to get players money and on the hook once they go pro.

Probably would've already came out, I am sure the NCAA already knew the scope of what this guy did before he testified today, he came clean years ago when they investigated him.

I misread that at first too, but I think Larry Johnson SR asked blazer to pay the Penn players father and not himself. I also, if I keep reading that tweet over and over because it is written bad, say that LJsr hooked up another Penn St assistant with Blazer to pay the players father they wanted to keep from entering the draft.
Larry Johnson Sr was just the connection because of his son being signed by Blazer.

The worst part is that the more noise the story makes the more likely others will start talking (even if just for the attention that they know something). It's not like Bama cheating is well hidden. Hell the rug has been against the ceiling from everything swept under it.

Against the rules, dogg.
