Snowy football games

I saw some highlights of the very snowy Independence Bowl between A&M and Miss State some years ago and it made me think about how rare snow games in the SEC are compared to conferences like the Big Ten, where it is obviously much colder.
I don't think that UGA has played in the snow in my lifetime. Are there any other noteable snowy SEC games that have happened?

I can't really recall any with noticeable snowfall. There were some flurries at a Bama game in the mid 90's, but nothing significant.
Seems there was a Kentucky game in Lexington not too long ago that had some light snow, but I could be wrong.

I believe there was a sizable snowfall just before the '64 Sugar Bowl between Bama & Ole Miss. Game was a defensive struggle, somehow we managed to convert 4 FGs and win. Wish we sill had that kicker, Davis

Not notable...but I've been to games at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington in late November where the bleachers were covered in ice. I think it was 1979...saw a woman slip and go down 15-20 rows sliding on her arse before she finally stopped.

Snowy games are amazing and I wish we had more of them in the South. The Snow Bowl between A&M and State was incredible.

Came here to write about this game. My dad was there as a young boy and he said they saw Davis walking in the Quarter after the game with two very large breasted women under each arm. He also says that some sportswriter wrote before the game that there was a better chance of snow in New Orleans than Bama winning that game. Well, both happened.

I remember the first game Auburn played at Fayetteville after the hogs joined the SEC. Think it was about 80 degrees in Alabama that weekend but a cold front had blown into Arkansas. Sub freezing temps and snowing at kickoff. Announcers kept talking about how the Auburn fans had arrived in shorts and t- shirts and had to scramble to find cold weather clothes.

Yeah, the Iron Bowl back just before Saban wasn’t in the snow but it was cold and sleeting during that shitshow in Tuscaloosa.
Coldest game I ever attended in person was during the magical 1992 season under Stallings. Played State in StarkVegas in November and it was the night game on ESPN. It was colder than a witch’s titty and as State was opening a can of whoop arse during the first half and the cowbells were clanging. That didn’t help it feel any warmer. Then Bama came roaring back in the second half and the cowbells stopped. It was even colder but I didn’t notice it near as much as the Tide kept their title drive alive.

Fun fact, the Vegas Algorithm doesn't adjust for inclement weather once its a known factor. I've made a shitload over the years going balls deep on snow/monsoon games on the under.

LSU Notre Dame in 1997, also in the Independence Bowl but nowhere near the now of that State/A&M game. It also flurried outside the Super Dome during the LSU/Illinois Sugar Bowl in 2001 if that counts. I know I've been to a Liberty Bowl where it snowed years back but not sure if an SEC was invovled. Thing with snow games is it doesn't get that cold in the South before the regular season finishes anywhere but maybe Lexington and I guess Columbia now with Missouri being here

pretty sure there was snow on the ground at the '64 Ole Miss/Ala Sugar Bowl but I think it snowed prior to the game, it was on the sidelines.

I was in Auburn for that game and remember going out to Toomer's after it was over and it was freezing/sleeting.
Probably the two coldest games I have been to have both been in Neyland - one against Kentucky and one against Vandy. The Vandy game was a night game, and you were lucky to have feeling in your fingers and toes when it was over.

2 coldest I remember:
'92 SEC Championship game was freezing/rain
'97 Ala @ MSU. Freezing/huge winds. State wins 17-16. The 2 guys that parachuted into the stadium almost died on the field before the game, not a graceful landing to say the least.
I didn't walk into the stadium for the 2000 Iron Bowl, gave my tickets to a young couple trying to buy. Between the shitty weather and our shitty team, I passed and went to a bar and got trashed. Solid call!

I remember a couple of Peach Bowl games in the 1970s or 1980s when it snowed during the games.

LSU vs Arkansas - 1947 Cotton Bowl aka the Ice Bowl (the game ended in a 0-0 tie.)

Otis Mounds Saved Auburn's 1993 Perfect Season in a snowy Fayetteville
It was so cold, nobody cared who won that 1993 game in Fayetteville. Thanks to the Arkansas homecoming queen for the assist. Great story if you like obscure SEC history.

We've had some light snow in games late in the season.
Sadly, half the time its miserable arse freezing rain.

As a child in the late 50s and 60s, I liked nothing better than bad weather football games, mostly NFL. Domed stadiums and climate change all but eliminated those spectacles.

I don't even remember Arkansas having a chance that game. We hadn't had a decent year since 1989. But we did post a winning record and finished 2nd in the SECW, behind Auburn. We upset 3 ranked teams, as well. That was Danny Ford's first season and Arkansas' second in the SEC. It was a better year than I remember it being.
