Sherrill 1991-2000 was very solid at State but the last 3 years really tarnished him.

Fulmer should be higher

Yeah there was a ten or fifteen year stretch in there where he was the all time active winningest coach in all of college football.

He is second, third at worst.

1. Saban. Mostly because of the dynasty he built at LSU.
2. Spurrier.
3. Kirby Smart
4, Les Miles
5. Fulmer

Deal with it.

Ranking Spurrier vs. Meyer is tough and probably depends on how much you weigh for consistency.
Florida was dogshit before Suprrier. Outside of a conference championship run once a decade or so, Florida would have no expectations without what Spurrier did.

Gotta give the Ol Ball Coach the nod here, and that isn't even factoring in what he did at USC.

Meyer was a flash in the pan who caught lightning in a bottle, nothing more.

No way in hell could he have built a dominant program like Fulmer did.

"Les Miles"

You're joking, right?

1 Saban
2 Spurrier
3 Kirby
4 Stallings
5 Richt/Miles/Meyer

I look at it in terms of who I would want to hire in their prime if I had to hire a coach tomorrow.

Saban is obvious.

Spurrier and Kirby is an extremely hard choice. I could swap these 2 around and be just fine.

Stallings because he coached up a team nobody gave a chance and knocked everyone in the fricking mouth. He was just a bit old.

And beyond that, it's hard for me to choose. Richt is a stand up guy, and above all else he will keep the program clean and respectable. Probably would have won a NC if not for Saban. Meyer I guess you might hire if you are firing Richt and want to get a NC and deal with the rest later. Miles just kind of maintains and lucks into shite, he's the inspector gadget of coaching. But he doesn't tear shite up.

The Great Pumpkin is too greasy for my tastes, but I guess he would be next on the list if I didn't kill myself instead.

Did he really have a better 90’s record than spurrier? Are you sure?

Fulmer was fairly solid as a head coach in the 1990s:

1992: 4-0
1993: 9-2-1
1994: 8-4
1995: 11-1
1996: 10-2
1997: 11-2 (SEC Champions)
1998: 13-0 (BCS National Champions; SEC Champions)
1999: 9-3

Still not as good as Spurrier was, but solid nonetheless.

This is not true in any way. He wasn’t even the winningest coach in his own division.

So the alter must have been talking about the “15 year” 2002-2007 time period after spurrier retired, but then what about Bowden?

Nobody on that list but Saban and Stallings could win title game with a QB that threw for 18 yards an 2 picks.

Between 2002-2007 Fulmer still wasn’t best coach in the East. That was Richt.

Fulmer, Stallings and Richt are tied

Fulmer and Richt are virtually identical, save one thing. Fulmer was at UT for 16 years, while Richt was at UGA for 15. They each have two SEC titles and both played in the SEC tile game five times. Richt does have a 5-3 advantage head to head, but Fulmer has a national title. That should put him ahead of Richt on the totem pole.

1 Saban - speaks for himself

Other options after that:

Spurrier - 5 SEC titles, 1 NC, 7 SECCG appearances
Meyer - 2 SEC titles, 2 NC, 2 SECCG appearances
Kirby - 2 SEC titles, 2 NC, 6 SECCG appearances
Stallings - 1 SEC title, 1 NC, 3 SECCG appearance
Fulmer - 2 SEC titles, 1 NC, 5 SECCG appearances
Miles - 2 SEC titles, 1 NC, 3 SECCG appearances
Gene Chizik - 1 SEC title, 1 NC, 1 SECCG appearance
Ed Orgeron - 1 SEC title, 1 NC, 1 SECCG appearance

(these are SEC coaches with a NC in the divisional era)

I'm probably go with Kirby at 2, Spurrier at 3 and Meyer at 4.

Fulmer probably at 5th.

Perhaps Richt's biggest accomplishment is how he restored order against Tennessee. The Hobnail Boot game was a turning point in SEC East history.

The 90s were awful. We even managed to beat Florida one time, but never beat Tennessee. I don't think a lot of fans understand how shitty Tennessee was for Georgia fans in the 90s. That's why Georgia fans stormed the field and tore up the hedges for the only time in like the last 70 years after we finally beat Tennessee (Donnan was the coach for that game I know, but Richt was the one who turned the series around).

Fulmer over stallings and Richt for obvious reasons.

Also, people forget how consistently good Spurriers teams were at UF. Changed the way offenses are run in this league forever as well.

He had to play against phat Phil at Tennessee and Bowden at prime FSU every year though his entire tenure basically.

Saban nor Kirby never had nor will have that kind of steady elite rival coaching competition.
