But a winning record against Ole Miss...so what's your point?

Only 1 6 year period in the sec, which was not better then Kirby.

2 SEC Championships and 2 Natty’s > 1 SEC Championship and 2 Natty’s

It’s basic math.

Over time Kirby could/should become #2, but I’d go spurrier. What he did at South Carolina gives him the edge for now

Fulmer was fairly solid as a head coach in the 1990s:

1992: 4-0
1993: 9-2-1
1994: 8-4
1995: 11-1
1996: 10-2
1997: 11-2 (SEC Champions)
1998: 13-0 (BCS National Champions; SEC Champions)
1999: 9-3

Still not as good as Spurrier was, but solid nonetheless

Fulmer was a far superior recruiter and assembler of coaching staffs than he ever was as a X and O mind on gameday. When Fulmer's program was rocking and rolling at its peak Cutcliffe had total reign on the offense. Chavis had the Defense. Fulmer was just there to be a frontman who closed deals in the living rooms of some fricking beastly recruits in the 90s/early 2000s. Those mid/late 90s-early 2000s Tennessee rosters were saturated with future NFL talent at pretty much every position on each side of the ball. Actually probably underachieved by just winning one natty in the year we least expected it during that era.

Like sometimes he would have Peyton Manning handing the ball off to Jamal Lewis and the "scrub" backup Travis Henry at one point. Or other years he'd have John Henderson and Albert freaking Haynesworth anchoring both DT spots together. Coulda easily won more than hardware than he did. Regardless Fulmer was still up there as one of the best head coaches in all of America from like Peyton Manning's career until the 2nd half of the LSU SECCG rematch where we blew another crack at the natty. Us Vols will though will always love him for being the one who brought a football natty back home to Knoxville and for that stretch where his teams beat Alabama like 9 times in 10 years.

As much as I don't/didn't like to admit it, those utk teams were absolutely LOADED with talent in the 90s. He was incredibly corrupt, but he knew how to recruit and evaluate talent. Cutcliffe and Chavis both had good eyes for talent. In terms of pure raw talent, those teams were typically right there with FSU as most talented in the country yearly (probably ahead of UF and Nebraska overall most years... though Spurrier and Osborne were better coaches). I remember being at the games (both in Birmingham/Tuscaloosa and Knoxville) in those years watching the players of both teams warm up before the games and thinking how good they looked "on the hoof" compared to Bama. They really should have won more than they did.

Coached at BAMA 7 years and averaged 10 wins a season. Got tired of the politics of the day and constant meddling by our AD and rode his Harley off into the sunset.
