It's a farce, for both the player and the school. He's not the only one that has stopped going to class because he knew he didn't need to.

Need to adopt the baseball rule.

If you are good enough, you can go out of high school. If not, you stay in college 3 years. Also, allow the kid to go to school if he doesn't like his draft position just like in baseball.

Agreed but I would even be ok with only 2 years

I agree with you overall, but honestly, how hard is it to finish out the school year before moving on. At least respect the school enough to do that. You will still make your millions, and it wont' be so embarrassing on you or the school.

John Wall is finishing up his degree during the summers at UK.

As much as I really try to get excited for basketball, the one and done is so awful. At least in baseball you can watch the team progress across a couple years.

UK has had guys come back and take classes in the NBA off-season. I'll never disagree with allowing a player to go early though. They have a short, short window to play in the NBA and school will always be there. The high school rule wasn't perfect either in that you had situations like Sebastian Telfair.

I wouldn't disagree with the baseball rule. They at least should be able to get a decent evaluation of where they'd be drafted to make that decision.

Simmons has been the exception though. Been a lot of guys at UK, Duke, etc that finished enough class to not ding the APR.

You talk like your assumptions about Ben Simmons' academic situation are fact.

LSU sat him during a game for academic reasons and then the Wooden stuff came out today.

How many one and dones at other programs have done the same?

It isn't fact yet but deductive reasoning will lead you to her point.

Cal has had former Kentucky players from Pitino/Tubby/Gillispie come back to finish their degrees. He works with the guys who leave early to get them to continue their pursuit of a degree in the offseason as well. But since he doesn't kiss the media's butt, it doesn't fit their narrative so it doesn't get put out there.

Carmello Anthony is one.

The basis for your argument is that Simmons is damaging LSU's APR. The NCAA requirement for freshmen eligibility is a 1.8. The Wooden requirement is a 2.0. Hypothetically, what if Ben Simmons currently has a 1.9?

With the missed game and the Wooden Award ineligibility, it is pretty obvious it's true.

I think the NBA should require that all players should possess an associates degree.

I think we'd all like to see it go that way OP. NBA has to get on board. They are the ones responsible for this whole mess.
