Seeing brand new road pillars on the sidewalks of Tuscaloosa made me feel a bit sad. The saddest part is that yes, they are completely necessary in this day and age, Lord willing we never need them, but you have to be safe.

FWIW Auburn put up pillars everywhere to keep people from parking anywhere they want

Maybe this is to protect against terrorism, but it probably serves several purposes.

I'd think the clear bag policy at SEC schools at this point would be a bigger indication of the times we live in.

Looks like some sort of concrete work might be in progress behind them. You sure they aren't there to just block that from people?

Nah, the construction is there because they're installing the others and I assume they didn't want to shut down the whole sidewalk in one go.

Our traffic flow has been altered due to recent events. We are using a weaving, "serpentine" flow to limit the ability for vehicles to pick up speed.

You are going to see more and more precautions like this. Clear bag policies first and metal detectors are next.

Pretty sure they just want to keep all vehicles off the sidewalk, including things like golf carts.

They've been using barriers on University Blvd in that stretch of road for years. Sometimes during big games they'll even throw them up near the intersection of Reed Street so that people can walk in the street down the strip. This is nothing new.
