Odd words from a guy who's 0-2 vs. Stanford so far in his career.

I agree with him. It is what it is.

Tbh, pro football is an actual profession. College players should be allowed to major in football (and other sports that have paying jobs like baseball, basketball, etc) and receive college credit hours. Would still need to take other classes, but like any degree, a reasonable percentage of credit hours are allocated to the profession they are enrolled in studying.

I'm okay with guys majoring in football. Plenty of people major in engineering or law or medicine only to not make it in the end. Why not let people major in sports? They bring more money to the school than the average student.
I've been saying this for a while now. There is a segment of the CFB population that will continue to play football, or coach it at some level. Call it what it is, a degree program in football for those guys. For others, it's just an elective. It's no different than any other discipline that prepares you for a career. In fact, I'd argue that they are far more prepared for a life in football of some sort than a business student is for a future in business.

You can't be admitted to college without one of them. Or both, in some cases.

I love college football. But it is out of control. The NFL needs to fund a minor league, and an 18 year old man should be able to make money working in football as a job.

Garbage. There are plenty of players that major in real subjects and get engineering and business degrees. Congrats to him getting into UCLA. His degree from there means jackshit difference to an employer hiring someone in the south. It could be argued that football players have better opportunities because they have tutors to help them during the season. He's just mad because he will never be as good at football as Dak Prescott and MsState didn't recruit him. I did both sports and school in college... i made better grades while playing than when i worked and went to college. The structure is better. millions of college students work and go to classes every year.

Terrible thread bro. Par for the course unfortunately.

It's not really a dig at Alabama when you read the whole quote. It's a dig at the entire college football system.
Most Alabama fans are too dumb to see that though.
He actually should have said Major Football programs so the rednecks wouldnt have lost their minds. They all drop requirements for players. Yes, even you Stanford and Notre Dame.......
But he is right. The student-athlete part of college football is largely a huge joke

A minor league football league would never work. Nobody would watch it. Nobody is gonna watch a minor league Birmingham or New Orleans or whoever based team play each other. People would still tune in to watch their favorite college teams

He mentioned Alabama because it's the king of college football right now, which makes it the best example for his point. But, he was talking about college football in general.

100%.
Either dump the whole student athlete charade or embrace the fact that > half the team is only there for their athletic prowess & the university is banking millions from it.
Accept the reality and place them in classes that will benefit them. If a kid has an 8th grade educational level.. put them on a plan to get them to high school grad level etc..

True, but he could have focused on UCLA just the same. I recall reading at somw point that UCLA and CAL typically lead the nation in special admits allowed to enroll and in disparity between athlete test scores and student test scores.
Which, of course, makes sense given they have very high admissions standards at both schools, but those standards aren't necessarily affecting student athlete admissions.

Listening to Matt Hayes on Finebaum. He just said the concern by some about Rosen in the NFL is his "level of commitment."

The main concept would not be to draw attendance. It would for development. Regardless, there is something wrong for a state institution to mandate 18 year olds to play a sport for profit for them. In any other profession, telling an 18 year old they can't work for them because of age is illegal. And none of this is even getting into the whole CTE issue.
