Tua's injury has attracted national media attention. Click on the link and scroll down to see a video of the procedure. Amazing stuff!
The tightrope is the baby of Waldrop, a 38-year-old Mobile native who serves a dual role as an orthopedic surgeon at the Birmingham-based Andrews Sports Medicine Center and as an Alabama football team physician. He learned of the tightrope in 2011 during an internship in Colorado with Thomas Clanton, a longtime NBA and NFL team physician.
Since Robinson’s surgery in 2014, at least six Alabama players have undergone the procedure, including Jalen Hurts last November who healed in time to lead the Tide to a second half comeback over Georgia in the SEC championship game.
At the Andrews clinic, Waldrop performs at least two tightrope procedures a week, he said last year, treating football players from the high school, Division II, FCS and Division III levels. Last fall, he set a record for tightrope surgeries on FBS players at 30.

He will be half strength for the rest of the season

Seems like the surgery itself would keep him out for more than a few weeks.

Saban is going to ruin Tua’s NFL prospect by playing him against LSU. Any other year their backup could beat us soundly but this year Tua has to play in order for them to win and Saban knows this. He’s willing to frick up Tua’s career just to beat LSU.
I get it, he gets paid to win, but still. This can’t possibly be good to play on three weeks later in a game as tough as this game is going to be.

Tua will have to be juiced up with pain medication, it's definitely going to be painful for several weeks.

Poor Tua. I watched his parents pace the hall. I still have no idea if Brian Maurer is alive, dead, or paralyzed but I know Tua had an ambulance that was pretty and flashed and such. I mean, hell what's a possible neck/head injury that could kill or paralyze compared to the fantastic ankle of a Bama player?

Something tells me that holes drilled through two bones in the leg takes more than a couple weeks to heal.

Imagine doing something like this for a freaking ankle sprain.
Saban is mentally unstable

Decided to google to supplement the article. Definitely more invasive than I originally thought. Yeesh.

Based on similar injuries at Ala, a heavily medicated Tua is going to play, I've done figured that much out.

We'll win, Tua or no Tua.

LSU has the best offense in the country, we have reason to feel confident. LSU suffered from losing nearly their entire Dline due to injuries. You won't find sympathy from LSU players during this game, probably afterwards.

Hey, it was your dumbass coach that ran him out there only a week after a concussion. No way in hell he completed a protocol.

He never had a concussion in the first place but was under concussion protocols. We put all injuries that are shoulder and above in concussion protocol because we care. In contrast, y'all had to strap Jeudy's chin strap for him and push him onto the field.

Five years ago, almost to the day, Alabama left tackle Cam Robinson sprained his ankle in a win at Tennessee. It was the worst kind of sprain, the high-ankle variety, to the worst kind of player, a mountain of a man whose lower extremities supported his 310-pound frame. The recovery time for such an injury is about a month, and it could linger into the six-to-eight week range. The Crimson Tide was scheduled to play LSU two weeks later in a top-25 showdown in Louisiana, Robinson’s home state. “Cam being a Louisiana guy, he wanted to play in that game,” recalls Alabama team surgeon Norman Waldrop. “We wanted to try to get him back as soon as we could. Not test it out but try to actually get him back. He played 13 days later.”
[quote]Only, Tagovailoa isn’t 310 pounds, and he’s got three weeks to recover, not two like Robinson. What’s more, we have actual concrete evidence when it comes to Tagovailoa and this surgery — the Heisman-contending junior underwent the procedure last December on the opposite ankle
