Did you think MSU was going to be able to hire anyone outside of the Mississippi JUCO ranks without giving them a long term deal?

Bye-bye loser.

So the point spread from last year against Texas to this year against Texas is your benchmark? And you seem to infer it has everything to do with MS State and nothing to do with Texas, whose team went two deep into the playoffs last year and is 5-2 this year.
I'd wager the point spread has more to do with Texas but hey, that's just me looking at results.

With all due respect, I don't want to hear any advice for "patience" from an Alabama fan. Your program is what it is because you don't tolerate mediocrity. So please spare me.

3. Anybody with a fourth of a brain can see the progress the team is making this year compared to last year. Sometimes things go beyond wins and losses. And this team is going to break through this year and beat somebody they are not supposed to.

Exactly. State has looked a lot better this year.

Still won't admit to being wrong. Sort of "fruit of the poisonous tree" concept. Wrong about one thing and he's wrong about everything. I wonder how many decisions an offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator make during a game. Probably 70-90 chances to make the right call and just as many chances to make the wrong call. If you are right every time you score a touchdown each and every play on offense. Right call on defense is a sack or tackle for loss. Concentrating on one play seems a bit stupid. Fortunately, he only has a couple of hundred posts in several years.
Most of us have moved on from the good field goal that was called bad but that doesn't count in this numb nuts' mind.

Texas has little offense this year with Manning at QB. And not much of an offensive line, either. So it's easy to see why Texas would not be a 37-point favorite on the road this year at State or anywhere else.

You can't change that Lebby cost State the game. Make excuses and name call me all you want. Facts are facts. Lebby is an idiot.

And everyone knows that "looking better" while you lose is the most important thing. Why I bet we could look great on our way to 4-8!

Hiring Arnett was the fault of AD John Cohen. He was leaving MSU at the end of 2022 to go be Auburn's AD and didn't want to do a thorough coaching search. He simply promoted Zach Arnett, with his reasoning being that he didn't want to lose Arnett to another program. It was a lame excuse and a lazy excuse.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Cohen left while Leach was still alive. Part of the problem was Leach died unexpectedly after many other coaches had been hired and right before signing day. State didn't have an AD because Cohen had left.

Sherrill had us winning in Year One

That was a different era of college football, not relevant to now.

Mullen

He followed Croom, who was SEC and AP coach of the year 1 year before his firing. He left Mullen with some talent to work with

Leech

This guy was a once in a lifetime coach, there were not many like the pirate. His death really unraveled what he was building there.

Lebby

He has already double his year one wins, and the season is just halfway done. Two losses were very close and you have a legit shot to beat Texas this weekend. After that you get a wounded and deflated Arkansas team.

Well, it’s something.
Bama in ‘06 was 6-6 and again in ‘07. But in ‘07 they looked significantly better, and obviously it paid off in ‘08.

Ok, whatever. I take it all back. By all means, fire Lebby and see what happens.

Sure I can. QB misread the play, right tackle or tight end missed block, play has worked 100 times, kicker could have missed ANOTHER field goal, or probably dozens of other scenarios. Granted, Florida sort of gifted us a win but a dumb call does not get a football coach fired. Otherwise, we wouldn't have any. Learn from it and move on. There have been many coaches (Kiffin, Malzahn, Tuberville, etc., etc.,) that have gone on 4th down when 90% of the crowd thought they were nut. Won some lost some. Move on!

Wrong. MSU alum here (1991) and sick of seeing this guy make stupid coaching decisions.

He’s the second lowest paid coach in the conference. Some of us are paying top dollar for those “stupid coaching decisions.”

In his first 3 seasons, Sherrill went 2-10-2 against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game. He was feasting on bad football teams. He also won a grand total of 3 games on the field in years 3 and 5.

quote:

Mullen and Leech had us winning in Year Two.

Mullen's numbers are worse than Jackie's. In his first 3 seasons, he when 2-13 against ranked teams.

Lebby currently sits at 1-8 against ranked teams with 4 likely-to-be-ranked opponents left on the schedule in 2025.

There are a couple of really important things to be gleaned from these historical facts. First, Lebby's performance isn't as far off Mullen and Sherril as you seem to think. Second, by the end of this season, Lebby will have faced as many ranked opponents in two years as they did in three. He's facing a notably more difficult schedule.

Leach is, of course, the outlier. If you give him credit for the bowl game played after his death, he was 8-8 against ranked opponents in 3 years but if Leach is the standard, every other Mississippi State coach since integration will be found lacking.

State would win the big 12 and the media would lose their minds over how good he is. I think he’s a good coach

So we'd be winning the Big 12 with Lebby? That praise actually makes the situation seem worse! The SEC is the premier collegiate sports conference but we're Big 12 caliber??

If you Vols think he's so good, you can hire him.
