I think Sheridan is full of shite and I think these threads should stop until there is something definitive to say on the matter...

However, I disagree with your assertion that there must be evidence of a big purchase made by Cecil or else it didn't happen.

Let me preface this by saying that I have always liked Sheridan and he is usually spot on. I have commented on this before. But he is very spotty on this with his comments. I also recall he talking about OSU when he first stated that this Cam Newton story was not over. He said something to the fact of...his source said TV Ban, post-season ban, loss of scholarships would all possibly be implemented. Does anyone think this will happen to OSU now that they are not going to hit them will failure to monitor? My point is...he has been a little more sketchy than normal...

Disclaimer: I am not saying his statements are true of false because I don't know. Only time will tell.

I think the point he is making is that if Cecil got that kind of money, it should be easy to trace it (purchases, bank account records, construction work, etc.) when there is such a short period of time between Cam signing with AU and the NCAA starting to investigate.

$200,000 over a few months would be hard for Cecil Newton to hide IMO.

I thought that Cecil Newton had already turned this stuff over months ago.

I believe him. Through all the smoke and mirrors it comes down to one thing and it is the only thing he has said consistantly. He doesn't know if the witness is being truthful.

I really have problems believing a man portrayed to be having as low of character as Cecil Newton has been would just bury the money in the back yard. At some point between Jan and Nov when the coast appeared to have been clear he would have bought something.

Why? Why could/would he not just sit on the money or have found ways to spend the cash discreetly and "off the books?"

I dunno if the payment did or did not happen, but I feel pretty confident in saying that if it did happen, then I doubt very seriously Cecil Newton turned over anything implicating that it did.

He doesn't strike me as that kind of person, but I suppose anything is possible. The number of legit investigative journalist that have looked for the money and come up empty is a primary reason I lean to the side that Au probably didn't pay.

Of course but wouldn't you see evidence of something. New cars, jewelry, upgrades at his church? Reporters have looked and looked and looked and found nothing.

I don't think he took money. And I hope he didn't.

But you would have to know what his money situation was like before this to know if he is sitting on money.

But that would not be very hard to figure out, would it? Seems to me with as many people snooping around out there we would have heard a story if there was anything to write about....

I have a feeling the Yahoo August bombshell story and Sheridan's comments/source are all somehow related.

I agree.

It does seem weird but I completely trust the Yahoo Sports guys because their record is flawless.

Not as easy as you think. I am a former auditor & CPA and I have seen some stupid people do an amazing job of hiding shite.

Has he said this? All I've seen him say is that he doesn't know if the guy will spill the beans.

If you deal in cash and layer in some other entities like churches, it can get very easy to cover up financial activity.
