She was fully aware of the rule and the rules are de rules.(even if you disagree.)

She also states that she is"only human" and then blames her mom passing... Just own up and move on.

Speed with weed is like running against the wind. Carrying potato chip bag does not help either. Agree.

Very unfortunate stuff, but we shall see what happens with this going forward, did you know last I checked only like 10 women in the Olympics have ran under 11 seconds? Sad news for her, but the consensus here looks like they are cool with her out bc she knew better, weed is illegal, blah blah, I don’t mind sticking up for her

A few things:

- Weed is banned by the World Antidoping Association so it's not (just) a U.S. thing.

- Whether we agree or not, according to federal law, weed is still illegal in all 50 states.

While the penalty may seem draconian, it is the rule/law, she knew it (or was at least responsible for knowing it), and broke the rule. I'm not uncompassionate for her situation, but those are the facts.

The way I understood it, her ban will be 30 days if she proves it was not performance enhancing but may be extended to up to 4 years if she fails to (I have not researched that...better ways to spend my time).

To her credit, she did own it and apologize rather than making up a ridiculous story about a tainted burrito or a vanishing twin. Sincerely, major props for that.

I don’t see why though pot is legal in parts of the US why would the olympics care about it?

Not true. Pot is not legal anywhere in the USA. It is decriminalized in many places though and medicinal use is ok’d.

I think she may have had a potential out if she had a medicinal use authorization. But doesnt sound like she is going to fight it

why did she get banned for something that doesn’t make you better at sports?

Maybe ask yourself, "Why did she take it if she KNEW if would get her kicked out"? She is not a victim here

When she smoked it, she both knew it was banned and knew she'd be tested at the Olympic trials.

She's a moron. It's that simple. She deserves no sympathy.

So says the state of Colorado. Federal government disagrees. Legality in the U.S. or individual states is not relevant to this thread anyway. We're talking about national and international sports governing bodies and the WORLD Anti Doping Association.

You may like the rule; you may not like the rule. Regardless, it is the rule.

These athletes know the rules before they ever step on a track or in a pool to start there training. If the athletes decide to knowingly break the rules then wine and cry about getting suspended then they have no one to look at but themselves no matter how miniscule the rule is it is still a rule and you willingly broke it knowing what will happen if you do. So accept your punishment and move on its 2021 the next Olympics are 3 years away get your self ready and go dominate.
