Let’s wait to freak out until it’s confirmed she’s out.

Right now it’s been said by one person with shall we say… limited credibility

Yeah I keep seeing headlines reading she is out and some reading she “could” be out, looks like it just happened recently

Oh shite sports center just tweeted that it’s unlikely she will compete

I don’t see why though pot is legal in parts of the US why would the olympics care about it?

Because usada and wada frown on it, especially "in competition." She knew that.

The news clip I saw says she has to prove it doesn’t help her be better bc it’s a banned substance, she literally has to prove pot doesn’t make you better at sports, pretty ridiculous crap in 2021

Someone in the replies said that it’s viewed as a PED because it decreases anxiety before competition

As if she would smoke right before a race

And as if it would help her

I could've been an Olympic athlete in any number of sports, but that damn 6 foot tall American flag bong that my roommate built side tracked my arse.

I was a patriot through and through.

Silly rule, just like some of the silly covid rules... BUT that said, rules are rules. Every track athlete knows the rules and get a sheet listing all the drugs that are illegal. Some on the list are masking agents. Track athletes usually make a record of everything they put in and on their bodies because even some cremes can result in a positive test.

The Olympics are 3 weeks away. Sad because I want to see her run. Stay off the damn sticky icky.

This isn’t because she smoked pot pot, it’s that they consider pot a PED, she has to prove its not a PED, it’s like asking does getting drunk help you in Basketball? Look it’s not a PED, thc is not a steroid tf

On one hand, I’m sure she knew that pot was a banned substance and made the decision to partake in it anyway. On the other, i can’t believe anyone actually thinks that pot would improve performance in track and field.

The Olympic committee needs to revisit the rules. Until that happens, an amazing athlete sabotaged themself.

I kind of agree, but disagree bc there is another runner for the women’s 800 that got kicked out, another country tho, but medaled at the Rio games, she didn’t qualify this round bc she failed her testosterone test, it was too high this year, as the article put it, she was born with a disorder where she has a XY chromosome…so if we already let athletes fail their gender tests and play, and medal, isn’t weed less severe? Why were exceptions made before? Is this not a woke subject?

But that rant might be completely off topic rn idk

If weed is a banned substance then weed is a banned substance...............no matter how you feel about whether it should be or not.

These are the Olympics we are talking about. Their drug testing has always been at a higher level than other sports......as well it should be.

You're just not gonna get this, but plenty of non performance enhancing substances are banned. Most notably diuretics... or heroin and fentanyl. Would've said MDMA, but break dancing debuts this year.

Here's United States Anti Doping Agency's link to the World Anti Doping Agency prohibited substances list. If you notice item 2 they address here. It's absolutely no secret to any athlete at that level thc is banned in competition. shite, maybe a decade and some change back you'd get a suspension for an out of competition positive for thc. Phelps is lucky usada wasn't looking for him after his trip to South Carolina

Yeah but it seems to get her spot back she would need to prove that thc specifically isn’t a PED, which for anyone that’s tried pot, it is intuitively not a PED that’s it’s laughable, it’s weird it’s even considered that if that’s the reason for her suspension, all this broke today so I haven’t read anything concrete or definite

You repeatedly calling it a PED is a straight up strawman. No agency is stating that's why it's banned. So it seems pointless to prove it's not something nobody accused it of being. frick

You have to go watch the actual news report on it, the Jamaican reporter one, I’m repeating what she said, to paraphrase: weed is a banned substance and carries a max ban time up to 4 years, unless the athletes proves she used it outside of the sport and there were no sports performance benefits, that reduces suspension to 3 months, and get it down another month, she has to agree to so on and so forth, it goes on in steps, you can probably find it on YouTube, type in her name and filter for today so you get the PED context

She literally will have to address that issue, which I’m saying is crazy

I guess im missing your point? She should be banned then? She shouldn’t make a case for herself on the PED part, why it doesn’t help when she is asked during the interview if and how it helped her? You’re acting as if I made up the PED angle that was reported in the news

Ethics is grey, not all black and white, this particular issue, I don’t mind going to bat for her on an outdated rule, I’m going to back up the Texas born LSU girl, who is the fastest woman in the world rn, you guys can tell her “oh you knew better, a rule is a rule, I don’t want to hear it”, like we don’t break these same rules and then some in football to get kids on the field, comical, now you guys are worried about the purity of Olympics, since when?
