Bjork did a good job on the baseball hire as well as a few non revenue coaches. But if he landed on Stoops after being in touch with 30-40 others, then yeah, he ended up with the wrong final answer.

I don’t think it would have been Charlie Strong or Tom Herman bad, but more like Jimbo continued.

I had no idea Stoops was making Jimbo money this whole time. I knew Lane was.

Lane made around $8.7 mil in 2023.

Jimbo made about $9.1 mil.

Stoops was about $8.6 mil.

I have no idea how Ross Bjork got a job and still has a job at A&M. He completely bungled the NCAA investigation into Ole Miss and hired Matt Luke.

I thought Lane got a raise. Just checked, his $9M base kicks in 2025.

Y’all rejected to stoops for a less experienced stoops?

No one really seems to understand why their fanbase hated the Stoops "hire" but embraces Elko.

The biggest benefit is that Elko is cheaper but we are constantly told that money isn't an issue.

Bc he’s a Stoops! lol too much bad blood with that family. Plus, that family is OU royalty. It’s an odd fit.

Not that you will genuinely listen to the explanations given, but just for shits and giggles:

Obviously Stoops is highly respected by the A&M leadership because he was one of the final candidates. Anyone can see that.

Elko was just preferred at the end of the day.

I heard that TAMU flew him to CS and then put him on a return flight.

What actually happened:

A&M Yell Leaders met him on the Tarmac.

That's an understatement.

There was a meltdown about Stoops and Elko is celebrated.

FWIW, I think Elko was the smartest choice but the reaction difference doesn't really make sense.

You're ignoring the bagging UK fans gave Stoops when they thought he was gone. Pile on them too, not just us man. Gd

I'm not piling on anyone, just saying the differences in reactions was surprising.

I'm not the only one, believe Josh Pate even said something similar in his show.

Fair enough. I really don’t know anything else about it - other than Elko was top of mind the whole time.

Speaking for myself, my attitude was, “as soon as Fisher gets the axe, Elko is the first call you make”

Zero facts there OP. A&M offered, Stoops listened, then turned you down. Try not to show your arse anymore.

I think stoops is 10X the coach that jimbo is, he does more with less…

The difference I think for a lot of these coaches that do good at smaller different level schools is they have guys in there program for 3-4 years plus a redshirt and then the produce very good at the end of there college career really year 4 and 5. And when u get to the talent level that some of the bigger higher rated student athletes you only get them for 3 years and you can’t waste one of those as a redshirt, so you have to learn to play these younger guys that are not quiet there knowledge wise and take the lumps the freshman year and let them learn so by year 2 they are seasoned. And money year 3 they are rolling… you can’t bring these guys along slowly and ensure they no every play and every call and all the scenarios until you are very deep and then can revert back to old ways and bring them along slow and only let the more experienced guys in the game.

Only coaches that are able to do it this way at imo are bama and Georgia

Gotta find some balance I see this from Kelly imo he doesn’t wanna let some of his younger ballers in bc they don’t know his entire playbook or all the calls. At some point coaches have to give a little and meet in the middle.

Idk if stoops can do that bc he has his system but yall are crazy if you think he can’t coach better then jimbo or is the same caliber, jimbo could not win at any level without far superior talent

Les Miles did it well at a high level. He constantly had juniors jump in the draft.

Jimbo at A&M was better than Stoops at UK. Maybe Stoops improves with more talent. Maybe not. After a decade at UK, we see the ceiling. It’s not nearly good enough. Again, maybe it gets better, but the type of money needed for him isn’t worth it. Elko represents a younger, hungrier, head coach who has all the traits and characteristics that could reach that next level. He already did a better job turning around Duke than Stoops did when he started at UK even tho they took over in similar circumstances.

He dodged a cannon ball. Dead end job with a payout. He wants to coach. Not retire.

Stoops is a heck of a coach. He didn’t deserve the end of his career this soon.

I agree, best/safest hire they could make.

I will be interesting to see what he does as far as the coordinator spots and how that affects recruiting.

I know both Robinson and Elko did a good job of recruiting under Jimbo but for all of his bad knocks, Jimbo has always been an elite recruiter.

With those guys potentially moving one step up, you suddenly have a very unproven staff (in their current positions) if the OC hire isn't an established veteran.

Yep! Jimbo Fisher has been great with his offensive background all that time at Texas A&M. I totally agree with you. You nail it big time! Texas A&M record was below average but that is not important. You got that right too! Way to go!
