So you're saying they wanted him and offered him.

Did stoops actually take a flight to College Station?

And as a KY fan, do you think Stoops may have poisoned the well a little back home with this cock-tease? I think he’s looking to get out of there…

This wouldn't change the reality one way or the other.

It would be a damned strong indication that he wanted the job

his was not a populist revolt along the lines of Tennessee nuking the hiring of Greg Schiano in 2017. That was fueled by disingenuous character assassination that Volunteers fans employed with Schiano by invoking ties to the Penn State Jerry Sandusky scandal

Two things about this...the fans were using court recorded testimony to push back on a coach that they didn't think was a good fit culturally for their school. Offering him the position was a stupid move in the first place, and it lead to Tennessee firing AD John Currie. The testimony was later cleared by Penn State and Ohio State...but Schiano shouldn't have been put in that situation in the first place, because he should not have been offered the job by Currie.

Since then, Schiano's college head coaching record is 21-28. He has not had a single winning season since that debacle. So...although they went about it the wrong way...UT dodged a bullet when they didn't hire Schiano.

In this instance, A&M backers at least were honest about declaring that they don’t think Stoops is a good enough coach.

UT fans didn't think Schiano was a good enough coach (or a cultural fit)...and it turns out, they were correct. Time will tell if aTm is right about Stoops.

That could all be true, and it's still not a good reflection on 8&4. Either scenario looks bad.

the more believable scenario.

Ie: your article is pure conjecture

Stoops has pretty much said that he said no last minute (probably because marrow told him he wasn't moving to a school with milk men, but per reports definetly due to staff telling him no) and thus the job offer he had could not be put forward to the board for review.

So you all went with your back up option, someone who may be fine but does not have SEC head coach on his resume.

It's pretty obvious you all got denied. What's more hilarious is people on Stoops' staff did not want to go to college Station even though they'd probably get a pay raise.

I tend to agree with this. Aggies revolted to the pick like Tennessee fans did to Schiano

This whole story sounds like BS and- if it’s true- it’s even worse for Aggy…

You’re telling me:

1) Aggy offered the job to Stoops

2) Stoops tells his coworkers and some supporters that he’s leaving

3) Aggy supporters and/or Board reject the offer Aggy made

3) Aggy then proceeds to rescind the offer after Stoops has told his coworkers and supporters he’s gone.

If this is true, then Aggy’s behavior is scumbag level.

If this is false and Aggy is putting this story out to “save face”, Aggy is also scumbag level.

Either way, this is the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL hiring I’ve ever seen for an institution in the SEC.

Nearing triple-digit downvotes. That went exactly as expected.

I agree it is not a good look, but did you miss UT a few years back?

I guess aTm thought a 7-5 ACC coach had a better shot to sustain their highly coveted 8&4 moniker than a 7-5 SEC coach.

ESPN confirmed Stoops wanted the A&M job and asked for too much money. A&M cannot give someone else the type of contract Jimbo had.

Look, I’m not just trying to pile on you guys just because it’s the thing to do around here (there will be plenty of time for that later).

This just happens to be (either way) on the list of things you just don’t do. You guys that are fans need to generate this narrative within the fan base that this is a crappy thing to do and -truth be told- head coaches in secure jobs may be hesitant to talk to you with you’re in this position next time.

In the long term, it’s just a bad business decision.

If i had someone do something similar to me, id be pissed (and rightfully so).

As it stands, I do hire and recruit people in a totally different line of work and these are just matters of professional decorum.

Cannot? No.

We're trying to be smart and learn from our mistakes. Elko got a fair market contract that isn't fully guaranteed and has decent enough incentives along with a large assistant pool. The opposite of Jimbo. Jimbo was giving all the money and basically full control. Elko is going to be in a more structure and planned out situation.

I agree with you. Shitty move by A&M, but making the right hire in a shitty way trumps making the wrong hire in a professional one. Time will tell if A&M acted like a jackass for the right reason or not.
