Mike, what do you think of the rock seating? I mean you spend 50 million and you can't put in some actual seats? I was over there during construction and it did not seem real comfortable to sit on for 3 hours. Still wish they had put more parking closer. Softball is a bitch if they get a crowd, not sure what baseball will be like.

Good gawd grits, you’ve been bitching about this Stadium. It is awesome, and those areas are for general admission/students on bern (cheap tickets). They will always be seating with chair backs for regular admission.
There is plenty of parking...especially with the football stadium parking down the hill.

I guess I am wondering about telling folks you are spending 25 million then blowing double in just about 2 years. Not knocking the stadium just being realistic on weather and future revenue streams to pay for it. LSU can sell Box because they have a history and better weather in February and a legit baseball history, not sure I see that happening in the new venue. I guess I would rather see UK's endowment grow than some projects enhancing the pockets of a few contractors and limited revenue upside. Maybe I am just old and do not understand the "new math" of college sports but it seems like a bubble ready to pop.
What do you see as the future? What am I missing here?
It is like dropping 200 million on CWS then pissing off the long time fans you ask to pay for it and now doing the same with Rupp. You drops seats and spend money it means those still with seats will pay more and this is not the 80's when CKY had 3 Fortune 500 companies, the horse, coal, and tobacco $$$$ to write the checks. I guess being a bit older than you I see folks in my age group dying off or dropping out. That is expected but the next generation does not have the money to keep up and that is not a good thing in my long term view.
I guess I just see a storm on the horizon and it worries me.

All of you trying to compare baseball stadiums just to be 2nd place to Baum.

And it's about to be getting millions in upgrades.
"Under a plan that is being floated by university officials, a new building would be constructed beyond the outfield wall at Baum Stadium. The 35,000- to 40,000-square-foot structure would house a new clubhouse, along with coaches’ offices, a weight room, a museum area, and other features."

Baum is a great in a lot of ways. It’s not in its sight lines and lack of seats behind home. That would drive me absolutely crazy.
Also, state fan, stop trying to put down UF & UK’s new parks. They’re not as nice as new Duty, but they’re top 20 type parks for sure.

I have always been surprised by the lack of general support for UF sports. When they beat us in the CWS, I had UF fans congratulate me on the win (I had been talking up the series and even played the games on the radio at work). They honestly were not aware that Florida had won the championship.
Granted some of them don't remember that Billy Donovan was their head coach. If people in that region was as passionate about UF athletics as they are of the Dolphins, it would be something special.

Florida is a huge state so we have more casual fans than most, and not everyone is aware of the going ons in every sport or some only care about football. That said, there is still substantial support for the other sports, you just don't see it in baseball. Most seem to think it is stadium related given how fans show out for gymnastics, volleyball, softball, lacrosse, etc.

This is what people seem to not get
Florida is a transplant state. Few generational ties.
We have five major colleges. With UF holding the most fans still, but sharing people with FSU, Miami, UCF, and USF.
So we have a transplant state where many move and hold their Yankee teams as their teams and a ton of colleges bidding for the fans that are here.
Our fan support is very good inspite of this. It's easy to have support when you are the major program in state, and have multi generational ties to the program.

Kentucky's new stadium looks nice. Odd why they would go with rock seating though. That would be extremely uncomfortable after a few hours. Should have designed that better.

I think the new stadium is more for the student athlete than the fans. The Florida baseball program deserves a good stadium
