The Rose Bowl was a football exhibition game, put on as part of the Tournament of Roses celebration.

Every team that has topped off an undefeated season in the pre-AP era with a Rose Bowl victory has claimed a title for it. If you are going to nullify Alabama's, make sure you get Michigan's, USC's, etc.

I have no problem scrutinizing titles, just as long as the same standard is set for everyone.

Isn't that enough?

"Got 12?" shirts easily make up half of the average Bama fan's wardrobe.

That's actually one less than I gave you credit for - wonder which one they didn't count?

I'd swap 1941 for 1945. We were undefeated and untied Rose Bowl champs that year too

Army had the better resume by far. They beat #13 Duke 48-13, they beat #9 Notre Dame 49-0, they beat #8 Penn 61-0, and they beat #2 Navy 32-13

There WERE no 'major organizations for that time'.

The AP/UPI/BCS didn't exist back then but there were organizations awarding teams for undefeated seasons. We were undefeated in 1925, 1926, 1930, and 1934 (won the Rose Bowl that year as well). There were some other undefeated teams those years but they didn't have as many wins as Bama did (except 1930 when we and ND were 10-0).

All I'm saying is that those teams were great and done exactly what they were suppose to do to go undefeated. If the University wants to hang a banner in their honor, so be it.

If we went back in time to before 1936 and AU went undefeated and won the major bowl, would you want your University to hang a banner and give kudos to those young men?

Fine, hang a banner. It can say "1925 Rose Bowl Champions".

Why does it have to be any more than that? More importantly, why was it no more than that until after Bryant died, when UA starting retroactively claiming those as NCs?

We got royally screwed out of a few national titles in football, but so did alot of other teams back in the day. The correct answer to the question is no doubt 7 National titles. 3 IN THE 60'S, 3 IN THE 70'S AND 1992. That would be 6 AP national titles and 1 UPI national title. This is not mythical, these are since the ap up inception in 1953 if i am not mistaken. Roll tide!!!!

Why are you claiming 03 as a national championship? The ap didn't award you one but you want bama to erase some of their ncs because the ap was non existant when they won them. And what's the difference in bama winning an nc in 41 with 2 losses and lsu winning an nc in 07 with 2 losses?

Because in 2007 LSU didn't finish like 20th in the polls. And they won the SEC. We finished pretty far back in the polls in 1941 and we also didn't win the SEC. I think Miss. St. did that year.

rolltide1283.....AU did go undefeated in 1910, 13 and 14 but we don't claim it.

His whole argument is that bama should not be claiming ncs that were not awarded by the ap. I just want him to adhere to his own advice and not claim ncs that were not awarded by the ap. Simple really.

Well, the BCS has the authority now, not the AP

Well it used to be that the AP was the major poll. Now the AP isn't the major poll, the BCS is.

Look, I will defend the other 11 claims, but there's no way in hell anyone can convince me to claim 1941. That's about as bogus as titles come. There's a difference between the 1941 Bama team and the 2003, and 2007 LSU teams.
