The funny thing about this statement is imagine how upset everybody would be if Texas was just declared the champion because they have a one game lead on the rest of the conference.
We could just have co-champions of the conference like in years past before 1992 and everyone would be happy.

As long as there’s money to be made these conference championship games aren’t going anywhere.
But agree they’re even less important now.

It is very necessary to knock Texas out of a bye.

Kirby is gonna be pissed off that Texas just landed 5 Star DL Justus Terry from the state of Georgia. Hot damn..

Not really. The winner has to play 1 less game and gets a ton of rest time
The loser plays one more game and gets less rest than Bama.

Yeah, it's obvious these games are now being played only because of the money generated.
I'm hopeful this will be changed in the future.

CFB is all about the $ now. We have venture capital getting involved in NIL deals etc.
No way they’re walking away from cash cows.
I’m also hopeful we’ll see some regulation (under a guise of academic integrity perhaps) but it certainly won’t happen with a laissez faire government the next 4 years… we should expect more insanity and Wild West. We’ve entered idiocracy and the monetization age but I’m digressing.

quote:Well, like someone else posted, Tennessee gets more time off than the loser of this game. Alabama (if they get in) does, also. So technically, time off to rest will be the same for the winner, Tennessee, and Alabama; the loser gets 2 weeks.
winner gets 24 days off with the 1st round bye (and claims an SEC Championship lol), loser plays in 2 weeks in the 1st round. don't really see how that's a waste of time
Drop the championship and it's better for all parties involved- Texas (only 1-loss SEC team) would get a month, everyone else gets 3 weeks.

So you would prefer the committee decide who gets the bye as opposed to playing on the field?
One team would get two games to try to be on the second round of the playoffs as opposed to starting in the first round. The odds of making it to the second round by playing two games instead of one are higher.

Feel free to return any conference money generated by this game. I doubt LSU can afford to send back handouts

Winning the SEC is BIG.
It's a UUUUUGE achievement.
Almost as big as winning the Natl title.
Bragging Rights.
The environment is second to none in that dome.
I remember being in Atl looking at the plaques of the past winners and it's nice to see your team on there.

But if they both get into the CFP is there really any drama????
Maybe both teams hold out their key players so they are available for the CFP….

SECCG...Texas vs. Georgia is a needless game
Neither team had a problem with it at the beginning of the season. Too late to cry about it now.

You are just jealous LSU is not in the title game.
I bet your fat arse will be on the couch watching it.

Kind of agree even though rest and getting a bye are something worthwhile. Still, who wants to play in a conf champ with the playoffs looming? My guess is most teams and coaches do not.
Posted on 12/6/24 at 12:57 pm to paulb52
It matters for the teams in it because of the bye and bragging rights, and that's about it. They traded games against top teams having meaning for games against #8 and #17 or whatever having meaning.
Personally, I'm not convinced Texas deserves a spot in the playoffs if they lose. They will be 0-2 vs ranked teams.
They will obviously still get in regardless, but it will just be another highlight on how dumb this format is.

Read the next paragraph. I think it's all ridiculous really.
If we were to go down to 12 and actually apply SoS, Texas would likely still make it in because of middle teams while teams like Boise St, Indiana and SMU are much worse.
But I'd have Alabama, USC and Ole Miss above Texas for sure. All of them have wins against ranked teams.
