Perpetually short? 2 national championship since 2000? Also, what the hell do you mean by "the fans practically ran Saban off"? I also don't understand the money thing. LSU does not have a money problem, our facilities are top 10 and our staff is one of the highest paid in America.

That’s not at all what I replied to though. I never said he was the best ever. It is pretty obvious he isn’t even close to that. Neither was Miles and he won a championship here.

Lol what? Miles wouldn’t have been expected to win against Georgia or Auburn last year. And neither was Ed, but Ed did it. I’m cautiously optomistic about this year.

Orgeron walked through hell and back

If he ever wins a NC at LSU you can go back to the 2017 Auburn game.

Anyone around LSU knows that Orgeron pretty much turned the program around.
The question is to what level. But it is much better than 7-5 and having all the recruits going elsewhere.
After Miss State and Troy in 2017 the scavengers were out.

the transition to a new regime

So we are “transitioning” from Bama winning the division most of the time to Bama winning the division most of the time?

“If you ain’t first, you’re last!”

Nobody cares about “5 consecutive second place finishes in the rugged SEC West.”

At the end of the day, Bama has been good at football for a long time. Even before Saban. Auburn is the team that has competed the best with them. It’s cultural.

Stand up guy, but he really is lucky and fallen into good situations that he shouldn't be in.

You make your own luck in life. Miles left the qb cupboard empty. O went and got Burrow. O recognized the offense couldn't compete and went and hired Joe Brady. Les wouldn't let go of Cam. He's added to the shadow staff, Miles didn't. That LSU recruits itself is blatantly false. O line and d line recruiting had fallen off under Miles. No marquee rb last season.

This season will be a defining one for Ed as he has the pieces to have a great season. When he took over LSU he had little to work with.

"Since 2000" covers almost 20 years and I acknowledged 2 things. All the on the surface things are there and Saban fixed it for them but even he has acknowledged the fans were tough, tough, tough to deal with. And he took off. Why exactly was unclear. He even had a pet name for their constant disaffection. But since Miles took his players and important parts of his staff and kinda, sorta won/backed into into a championship they have underachieved based on the potential. Except for the great 2011 squad. I won't bore you with all the details again and sure I don't have a complete insight. Being an outsider maybe I don't have very much at all. There surely are issues an outsider would be unaware of. Maybe the new AD can cure what ails them. So they can reach their vast promise. Among those ails was a wide spread conversation among state and school officials concerning money being an issue.

They do seem to be on more solid footing going forward. And have never dropped below good. And they have seemingly everything going for them now. Great players stacked on top of great players and recruiting right at the top. Insane fans and I mean that literally which Saban may have been alluding too. But NO ONE approaches LSU fans in paranoia and conspiracy angles. LOL! But they put the support where their paranoia is and show up and support! Then throw up billboards and generally challenge the idea of sportsmanship and civilized behavior among a minority of the fans when disappointed. But that adds a bit of color to the SEC. I'm not exactly sure what the folks in middle America think but it makes for quality entertainment locally.

I think O has done a good job, but it’s still hard to imagine him

1. Beating Saban
2. Not slipping up against another team or two

I think Miles had gotten stagnant, and O has brought in new energy. Eventually that new energy will fade though and then you will just have O the coach.

LSU will never challenge for anything with Ed Orgeron running the show, and deep down every LSU fan knows this.

You gonna change your thought process on the Guy after this year. Ed O knows what needs to be done(changing the ground and pound offense) and recruiting in the trenches is where it starts and i believe this year LSU gets back to elite status.

This is a huge year for Big Ed. He's had time to correct some staff mistakes and this season is on him. I believe he is going to do well. The SEC West is a tuff place to make a living with LSU,Barn,A&M, and Bama. Even if the cow college were to crash and burn this year they will fire Guz and hire a good football coach thus improving their position going forward. Don't underestimate the barn. That would be a mistake.

Auburn isn’t recruiting quite as well as LSU and TAMU,

This is factually incorrect. Auburn has a higher average star ranking for 2018, 2019 and those committed in 2020 than A&M and is in a dead heat with LSU.

Not that my method is more valid than yours, but I was just going by 247 overall rankings for 2019 and 2020, which has Auburn behind LSU & TAMU. I do see Auburn’s average star ranking puts them higher. The lower quantity is what’s dragging their overall rankings down a bit.

But being objective, you have to put Auburn’s outlook slightly behind LSU’s and TAMU’s for the next 3-5 years. Mostly because Gus’ job is not as secure as Orgeron and Fisher’s. Now, we’re just dealing in probabilities here. They could fire Gus and hire Urban Meyer and rip off 3 straight West titles for all we know.

If you don’t think we’re in a dogfight with them in the West pecking order you’re out of your mind. Check the recruiting rankings. Jimbo isn’t Sumlin.
