Kind of wild that Alabama hasn't made it to Omaha in almost 25 years.

Feels like Vandy has been there 5 times in the past 7 years. All of its trips recent?

We made it to the Finals our very first trip to Omaha. Lost to a stacked UTa team, I was there. ('75) They had this kid named Mickey Reichenbach just play lights out in that game. Those were the days of one and done in the finals. We were loaded too ... Mookey Wilson among them, but the Finals overwhelmed-us, the stage ... those were pre cable days and every local station from Columbia was there covering with WIS broadcasting the entire game live back home. Just unheard-of in those days. God Bless Bobby Richardson.

We returned to the Finals two years later with an entirely different team amd coach.

Series play is the way baseball was meant-to-be played. That wasnthe only bad thing about Omaha for years ... one and done finals sucked donkey balls. Back then SoCal and UTa had massive rosters and traveling squads and you just couldn't deal with their bullpen depth for those one and done games. SoCal especially ... well, the entire CIBA (PCC) and SCBA were built to give those schools a huge advantage.

One in 2007 or around that time. The rest are from 2014 and beyond I think

I believe that wasn't until 1988, as the previous 38 seasons were a full double-elimination format and a team couldn't be eliminated with only one loss.

Starting in 88, they changed it to the one-and-done format, and ironically enough, Texas and South Carolina were the last teams to play the championship in it during the 2002 CWS. Starting in 2003, we have the format we have now (essentially another two regionals and super regional to decide the CWS)

Why don't I see Tennessee listed. I'm sure they've won it at least a dozen times.

Yes. Corbin didn't make it to Omaha until his 9th season at Vanderbilt.

Nope ... only the first two finals were played as a series, late 40s. After that the Finals were one and done meaning, you could go undefeated during the round robin double elimination bracketed tourney and lose just one game ... the finals, and you were out. While your opponent in the finals may have lost one game as well but won the one finals game.

It happened to SC twice.

I think SC may still have the highest winning percentage in CWS history. If not us then LSU but, either way, the one and done finals format sucked and it was in-play from like 1950-2002 ... pretty sure you're right about that 2002 championship game between us being the last one.

Agree to disagree

Through 1987 the College World Series was a pure double-elimination event. That ended with the 1987 College World Series
quote:

The format was changed beginning with the 1988 College World Series, when the tournament was divided into 2 four-team double-elimination brackets, with the survivors of each bracket playing in a single championship game. The single-game championship was designed for network television, with the final game on CBS on a Saturday afternoon.

It definitely changed to a best of 3 finals in 2003. SC and Texas played in 02 and they had Houston Street. Behind him their staff was not nearly as good.

Id say Coastal has the best winning % as they have never lost a CWS game, one trip, one title

If UGA ever wakes up they could be a regular fixture.
