cool third place finish in your division bra. Looking forward to this year's third or fourth place finish?

At least UT (ranked #3) was the favorite to win it in 97. I think LSU was unranked in 2001. UT was #2.

LSU finished that season ranked number 7. BCS bowl win and SEC championship.

It should've been Tennessee 3, LSU 3.

2001 SECCG

Maybe you should of tried knocking out a WR too.

Not sure what we were ranked, but I would assume we were, since we finished in the top 10. I know we finished with a top 5 and top 10 win, but I doubt those would of bumped us from unranked to top 10, especially with LSU not having the national name like we do now.

LSU was #21 going into that game. Finished the season #7 and UT finished the season #4.

We were ranked 20th following the Auburn win. That win put us against Illinois in the Sugar Bowl where a 13-point win bolstered us up to No. 8 by season's end I believe.

After beating possibly the best Florida team ever at the Swamp, 99.9% of UT fans were getting ready for the title game. I know I was. We didn't even see this one coming.

At the time (mid 90's~early 2000's) the motto for UT was beat Florida, and you automatically win the SEC.

I see now.

Really this thread is another Tennessee "Look at us guys, remember when we were relevant?" threads, they are getting pretty good at this.

That's about where I thought, but didn't know for sure, and didn't feel like looking it up on my phone.

And ended up in the final Citrus Bowl instead, how appropriate.

LSU was ranked #21 in the AP poll on December 2nd, and UT was #2. The following poll (December 9th), LSU jumped to #12 and UT dropped to #8. After both won their bowl games in blowouts, LSU finished #7 and UT finished #4 (Final AP Poll January 4th).

Get back to me in 2033 if we still haven't won an SECCG.

Alabama vs. Tennessee - More SEC titles on the field when they play than any other two programs.
