With the help of message board members beginning in 2014, we—the students and professors of the Know Rivalry Project—began answering this question and others related to rivalry in College Football. Please help us update and expand our results to ensure that the SEC is included by taking 9 minutes to complete our newest survey:

LINK

Our previous results have been featured in numerous sports media outlets, as well as the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. You can view those results, links to media coverage, and learn more about us at our KnowRivalry.com website BUT we'd prefer you didn't until you completed the survey via the link above... we don't want to influence your opinions provided in the survey.

We use the Qualtrics online survey software for data collection. This academic research has been approved by two US universities' Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and it poses no risks to respondents. You'll find more information on the disclosure agreement that is required to start the survey. Thank you for helping us to include the SEC by participating and please share this with any other fans that may also help.

I’ll tell you everything you need to know about rivals.

Alabama and Auburn are rivals.
Tenn used to be Alabama rival but now they barely have a football team, so no one cares.

Mississippi State and Ole Miss hate each other.
Ole Miss tries to claim L1U as their real rival to make MSU fans jealous, but it doesn’t work because MSU is better at beating L1U these past few years than Ole Miss is.
Mississippi State and Kentucky are also rivals because Kentucky and their fans are shite.

Speaking of L1U: they have no real rival, they just take out their frustrations on everyone, but they are extremely obsessed with Alabama - though it’s a one-directional obsession.

Texas A&M tries to act like L1U is their rival but L1U beats them all the time.
The truth is no one likes Texas A&M. Not in a rivalry hate kind of way, we just plain ole don’t like them or the fact that they are in our conference.
Most of the country doesn’t like Texas in general, so it shouldn’t really be a surprise.

Missouri and Arkansas are rivals. Everyone outside of Missouri likes Arkansas.

Georgia and Florida hate each other because they are in a rivalry over who has the most overrated coach.

I want the names of the people who approved it and maybe we will talk. Although I am not sure that professors at Northern Kentucky and Amherst would know a fricking thing about college football rivalries.

Also I don't like professors nor do I lke polls. So you've got your work cut out for you.

I like how every now and then, you show you have no clue.

Since 46-41, you must have accidentally missed the hundreds and possibly thousands of LSU-cessed threads that say they are not LSU cessed.

About 5 bama posters that use penn state and New York logos along with two slackjawed inbreds cannot go a day with starting how LSU is NOT on their minds.

LSU fans claim that lopsided rivalries aren’t real rivalries since the series aren’t competitive. If that’s the case, then Alabama/LSU isn’t a rivalry because Alabama owns that LSU arse.

I just don’t see LSU begging to be a rival with anyone.

That’s why it’s so bizarre to see these Alabama ranters come out here every day and talk about LSU when there are entirely larger fish for them to fry,at the moment. I just sit back and laugh.

The only school I see begging for anything is aggy ranters begging to get attention from
Arky
Bama
LSU.

Application denied from Arky/LSU, bama has been willing to reciprocate the lapdances lately. And they are totally allowed to do that.

Everybody likes to tell us who our rival is or isn’t. The SEC has tried to make Arkansas, A&M and Florida our rivals. None of those have been accepted by LSU fans.

Auburn has never been a rival because we haven’t played them as much as most West teams historically. Ole miss was a rival 70 years ago when we also had a rival in Tulane. Those rivalries died as we no longer play Tulane with any consistency and Ole Miss just hasn’t kept up their end of the deal. (This is the route Alabama-Tennessee is currently on)
This leaves Alabama and Mississippi St. we have historically beat down Mississippi St. and have the longest series with them. They aren’t a rival but they feel like a little brother who we like to see do good every now and then. Alabama has not historically been a rival either. They have most wins against us out of all the teams we have played against. This has the potential to be a rivalry and will be determined by whether a post-Saban Alabama program can maintain some success against us. Pre-Saban there was no animosity with Alabama with the exception of the SEC headquarters being near their school and some perceived bias by officials towards them.
